Jayden Daniels’ Week 3 Performance Forever Immortalized In Hall Of Fame

Jayden Daniels

The NFL Hall of Fame has now immortalized the record of Washington Commanders Starting Quarterback Jayden Daniels. He has done so much in so little time, and now it will stand for the all time.

While leading his team to the top of the NFC East, learning as a rookie starting quarterback and reviving a team long known for instability, Jayden Daniels is must-see TV.  He’s setting a standard for rookie quarterbacks that may change how anyone understands the title “rookie”.  Now his performance is in the NFL Hall of Fame.

In what takes players years of play to do, Jayden Daniels has done it in a couple of weeks: Get into the NFL Hall of Fame.  However, it’s not Daniels: It’s his record. According to Profootballhof.com, the game ball Daniels used in the Commanders’ Monday Night Football win over the Cincinnati Bengals is being inducted into the “Pro Football Today” Gallery of the Hall of Fame. On X, the Hall of Fame posted a picture of the ball behind glass, with the image stating, “New At The Hall”. The Hall posted on their site the following to commemorate the achievement:

“With the Commanders leading 31-26 over the Cincinnati Bengals, Daniels led Washington on a game sealing drive, resulting in a 27-yard touchdown pass to Terry McLaurin with 2:10 left in the fourth quarter. If Daniels’ pass on third-and-7 were not complete, his completion percentage would have dropped of 86.9% (20-for-23), which is below the rookie record of 88.9% set by Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys in 2016. For the game, Daniels recorded 254 yards and two touchdowns passing, adding 39 rushing yards and another score for the Commanders.”

Jayden Daniels Adds More Awards To His Resume

Before this announcement, the NFL on Thursday announced Jayden Daniels as the league’s “Offensive Player of the Month.” According to the Commanders’ website, Daniels is the seventh to receive the honor since 1996. “…He joins Griffin III (twice in 2012), OLB Ryan Kerrigan (2011), S Chris Horton (2008), CB Fred Smoot (2001), T Chris Samuels (2000) and CB Champ Bailey (1999) as the other Washington players to earn the distinction…”

Randy Moss: Jayden Daniels Style Of Play “Sustainable”

Jayden Daniels has everyone talking about him, even other Hall of Famers like Randy Moss. Moss, a 2018 HOF Inductee, said before the Commanders’ Week 3 win Jayden Daniels can keep this pace the entire season.  Speaking on NFL Countdown he said, “Is there anyone playing better than this young man here? I can’t find one. And the reason why I talk about can you find one is because I really think the success he has in the League is very sustainable….he’s reaching the deep part of the passing game. You don’t expect that out of a rookie,” Moss said.

For Daniels, he’s enjoying the beginning journey of his NFL career. However, he also understands that on any given Sunday, anything can happen. Speaking with  Sports Illustrated on Friday he talked about remembering what’s important and there’s always room for improvement. “… How can I get better each and every week? Not get caught up in what people are saying or anything because none of that really matters. Because I could be playing good and then playing bad and people would be thinking the opposite. So, it’s staying levelheaded.”

It’s easy to forget this is just his first season. It’s easy also to forget the NFL is just entering Week 5.  On Sunday the Commanders will face the Cleveland Browns at home.  If Daniels wants to make it special, he could work to break the rushing record of Robert Griffin III. RG3 set a new single-season record with 815 yards in 2012, eclipsing Cam Newton’s record in 2011 with 706. So far,  Through four games, Daniels has 46 carries for 218 yards.
