Jaime Munguia Triumphs Over Erik Bazinyan in a Tough Battle

Jaime Munguia

Super middleweight Fighter Jaime Munguia (44-1, 35 KOs) triumphed with a thunderous tenth-round knockout over Erik Bazinyan (32-1-1, 23 KOs) on Friday in Glendale, Arizona’s Desert Diamond Arena. The fight was tougher than predicted, as Munguia struggled to deal with Bazinyan’s strong jab and better boxing technique over the first six rounds.

Bazinyan’s Strong Start: Jaime Munguia Turning Table

Jaime Munguia had trouble breaking down Erik Bazinyan during the first rounds, who kept him at a distance with his accurate jabs and good footwork. It was hard for Munguia to close the distance and throw substantial punches against Bazinyan, whose technical skills granted him wins in a number of the opening rounds.

Jaime Munguia turned the fight to his advantage in the seventh round. He landed a sharp one-two combination of punches on Bazinyan, knocking him off balance. This combo of punches created a chance for him to shoot a further series of heavy blows. Bazinyan managed to survive the round, but it became clear that he was building on that momentum and gradually wearing his opponent down.

Jaime Munguia took total command of the fight by the tenth round. He overwhelmed Bazinyan with a knockout punch to the left, and instead of boxing back, Bazinyan blundered into an all-out war. With the opening, He let loose a flurry of punches that sent Bazinyan down to the mat. The referee counted him out, and the fight was stopped in the tenth round, he won a tough victory with 36 points.

In the earlier fight on that same card, heavyweight Joey Dawejko met an unusual disqualification against Richard Torrez Jr.’s opponent, Joey Dawejko (21-11-4, 12 KOs), repeatedly lost his mouthpiece, particularly after being hit by hard punches. The referee took away points from Dawejko on two occasions, informing him that such blows may result in disqualification.

After he took a devastating blow, Dawejko dropped his mouthpiece in the fifth round. Even though it appeared to be a result of the punch, the referee disqualified him at 2:02 of the fifth series concluding an exciting contest. The crowd responded with a mix of feedback to Dawejko’s decision, having managed to throw several effective punches at Torrez Jr. before the stoppage.

Vargas Dominates Fryers

Unbeaten light welterweight prospect Emiliano Vargas (12-0, 10 KOs) won by knockout in the fifth round against Larry Fryers (13-7-1, 5 KOs). Vargas knocked out Fryers with a vicious left hook, laying him on the floor face up. Vargas notched another impressive victory, courtesy of the referee who immediately stopped the fight after it started.

Fryers took a beating from Vargas’ uppercuts in the second round, held back by the ropes. Although Fryers rallied with a body shot in the third frame against Vargas, he ultimately took too many punches and could not manage the unyielding aggression of the upcoming prospect.
