Ishan Kishan played his last international game against Australia in November 2023. A lot has happened since then. Kishan missed out on the Ranji Trophy as he rested midway through India’s tour of South Africa. He also terminated the BCCI central contract, leaving many to question his decisions.

During his break from international cricket, Kishan chose to train in Baroda with Hardik Pandya, the new Mumbai Indians captain, for IPL 2024. Ishan Kishan explained that it was ‘normal’ to take a break and not play home games said in a recent interview. He was facing travel fatigue, which led to his absence.

“I was doing a run and then I found myself on the bench. These things do happen in team games. But I felt travel fatigue. It meant something was wrong, and I felt uncomfortable or right, so I got off. Then, he decided to take a break to remove their travel fatigue.”

Ishan Kishan failed to play for Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy but stayed on in IPL 2024. BCCI secretary Jai Shah had warned players to prioritize IPL over domestic cricket. The board informed the players that if they do not participate in domestic cricket, then they will take serious action.

“I took a break, I guess it was normal. There’s a rule that if you want to come back, you have to perform in domestic cricket. It’s that simple. Then, for me, there was the domestic game. It is very different in cricket as it was. It doesn’t mean anything that I’m out of the frame. That is why I took a break from international cricket.”

It doesn’t make sense to take a break from playing international cricket and then go on to play the domestic game. Now I could have continued to play for India. Now, I am ready to play for India and excited to give an amazing performance. The cricket fans are waiting for him to come back.

Ishan Kishan To Maintain a Positive Attitude

Ishan Kishan and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer are not included in the BCCI Central contract list ahead of IPL 2024. Outgoing Head Coach Rahul Dravid has confirmed that Kishan is not available for selection in the England Test series, the wicketkeeper-batsman to return to half of domestic cricket.

“I don’t want to be unhappy with anything. I will give my best.” Ishan Kishan said when asked if he would step down and later turn down the BCCI central contract. Ishan Kishan took a break from International cricket to recover from travel fatigue. Ishan Kishan played his last international game against Australia in November.

Ishan Kishan remains optimistic about his future in cricket. His decision to retire reflects the increasing embrace of mental health issues among athletes. As Kishan continues to train and perform, he aims to come back stronger and more prepared on the international stage. The cricketing world is waiting for his return.
