The Los Angeles Dodgers have started off the 2025 season, already rewriting the record books with their early schedule. After winning the 2024 World Series against the New York Yankees, they started 8-0. It was the best start for a defending champion in league history. They took a two-game set from the Chicago Cubs in the Tokyo Series and swept the Detroit Tigers and Atlanta Braves before finally falling to the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Dodgers’ Strong Start
With the offseason that the Dodgers had, it’s not surprising they are one of the best teams in baseball during the 2025 season. Fueled by massive signings of Blake Snell, Teoscar Hernandez, Tanner Scott, Roki Sasaki, and more, the boys in blue looked poised from the start to win back-to-back World Series.
Everyone has been holding their own on the field, even with Mookie Betts missing some time and Freddie Freeman suffering an unfortunate fall in the shower, aggravating his angle. With the depth of the team, there is someone ready to fill in the blanks.
April 11-April 16 Homestand
The Dodgers welcome the Chicago Cubs from April 11 to April 13 for a 3-game set. The Dodgers are already undefeated against the Cubs this year, even if it was a quick 2-gamer in Tokyo. At first, the pitching for the Cubs could prove difficult but Justin Steele, a part of their one-two punch at the top with Shota Imanaga, just landed on the IL. Kyle Tucker has been tearing the cover off the ball recently and Dansby Swanson has been making major impacts in their recent wins.
National League West rivals, the Colorado Rockies, head to town after the Cubs. That should be an easy trek for the Dodgers. The Rockies are currently 2-8, sitting at the bottom of the standings. They have a decent young core of Ezequiel Tovar, Michael Toglia, and Brenton Doyle. Kyle Freeland has been impressive so far this year. Sadly, it’s the same old Rockies team that everyone marks as easy wins on their calendars.
April 18th – April 23 Road Trip
The toughest test for the Dodgers for the rest of April is their matchup with the Texas Rangers in Arlington. The Rangers are two years removed from a World Series championship in 2023 but suffered a decent amount of injuries in 2024 and missed the playoffs altogether. They are poised for a bounce-back year, especially with Jacob deGrom looking to stay healthy. Flashes of New York Mets deGrom could spell major issues for the Dodgers.
They head to Chicago to play the Cubs again for another quick two-game stretch. It shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Playing in Chicago in April vs. Los Angeles, the weather and temperature will play a big role in these games. The wind that whips through Wrigley is unpredictable and very much a factor.
April 25 –April 30 Back at Home
The Dodgers end their April at home with a three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates had an unexciting, mediocre offseason, barely making any moves. Sure, Paul Skenes is the most exciting and electric pitcher in baseball and can and will shut down any team, but the rest of the rotation is a question mark, especially with Jared Jones on the IL.
The end of the month brings the Miami Marlins to town. A sneaky team this year sitting currently at .500 in a stacked National League East. Their young core Otto Lopez, Xavier Edwards, and Dane Myers have been taking steps forward. It doesn’t hurt that superstar hurler Sandy Alcantara is dealing.
Prediction
Seventeen games over six series should prove fruitful for the Dodgers. The only real tests will be the Rangers and the Marlins if they continue their good stretch of baseball.
