Green, who hit six threes out of seven attempts. He mentioned the team’s ambition before the crowd, saying, “This is what we want to be every night.” The victory for the Houston Rockets was not without its challenges for the Suns. Their All-Star player, Devin Booker, had to leave the game late due to him rolling his right ankle in a collision with teammate Royce O’Neale. Luckily, x-rays were negative for Booker, giving at least a sigh of relief to the Suns.
Bradley Beal is back after a five-game absence due to a hamstring injury. In the third quarter, Beal’s ejection exacerbated the Suns‘ difficulties, as a brief altercation with Green led to his removal from the game. He ended the game with seven points on 3-of-6 shooting. Despite the obstacles, Suns’ coach Frank Vogel commented on the team’s effort, saying, “We fought. We battled, but it wasn’t enough.”
Kevin Durant led the Suns with 30 points, Booker poured in 24, and fellow teammate O’Neale added 20. Nevertheless, and even with coach Udoka, the Houston Rockets kept their lead for the most part. Rockets’ Resilience and Rivalry Redemption: Overcoming Injuries and Learning from Experience
Udoka praised his team for the game they played saying that it was a night. The day was different from their previous one, where they started poorly. The Houston Rockets, 38-19 up at the end of the first quarter, and leading 54-44 at halftime, displayed energy and force from the get-go. This contrasting start with the earlier matchup testified to the capability of the Houston Rockets to change and learn from their experience.
The match provided a platform for the rivalry prevailing since the previous game, when Booker and Houston’s Whitmore faced each other in a minor fracas. Vogel highlighted the importance of the mini “baseball series” within the 82-game season with the remarks that the team that wins the first game secures a psychological edge as well.
The Rockets were able to win the game under the pressure of limited resources on the health front. Jusuf Nurkic‘s neck got sprained, and O’Neale suffered an ankle sprain. At the halftime show, Amare Stoudemire, one of the Suns’ stars from the 2002–10 era, was inducted into the Suns’ Ring of Honor, thanking him for the good times they had wearing the purple and orange jerseys.
