Michael Owen has never been a huge fan of Mohamed Salah, arguably the best Egyptian footballer ever. The Premier League winger and striker has been a longtime stalwart at Liverpool FC. He is best known for his amazing left foot, incredible goals, and creative assists on the pitch. Plus, his speed and tenacity are unmatched. But, Michael Owen – the ex-Liverpool player – doesn’t think Mo Salah is the best there is.
Michael Owen, Ex-Liverpool FC Player, Thinks Mohamed Salah Not Performing This Season
I’m totally devastated. There’s absolutely no excuse for this. We had everything we needed to make it to next year’s Champions League and we failed. We are Liverpool and qualifying to the competition is the bare minimum. I am sorry but it’s too soon for an uplifting or optimistic… pic.twitter.com/qZmA9WsueM

Despite being a long-time fan and player at Liverpool FC, Owen loves to criticize his former club. Michael Owen might just demand a lot from the players, but it comes across as negative.
Michael Owen was disappointed in the squad’s result vs. Manchester United earlier this week. The 2-2 draw gave a chance for Manchester City and Arsenal FC to still have a shot at the Premier League title.
And who did he blame? The Egyptian striker. Although Salah has broken numerous records throughout his time at Liverpool FC, Owen claims his lack of form hasn’t helped his team at all in the 2023-2024 season.
Mo Salah only recently came back from injury, no doubt hampering his lightning speed and incredible technical ability. Therefore, he missed a few shots and did a couple of errant passes that were unlike his usual playing style.
Michael Owen May Have Never Liked the Egyptian Striker, Mo Salah
Even a few years ago when Sadio Mane was still on the team, Michael Owen enjoyed coming up with ludicrous theories regarding Liverpool FC and Mo Salah. He claimed Mane was jealous that Salah was performing better than him.
Michael Owen claimed Sadio Mane refused to dive or take a foul in the box because he wanted to score more goals than Salah. The pundit seems to enjoy criticizing Salah, questioning Jurgen Klopp’s tactics, and nitpicking on Liverpool’s general play.
Normally you see attacking players go down. I just wonder whether he’s thinking, ‘hang on a minute, I’m going to try and score, because if I don’t stand on my feet Mo Salah is going to get another penalty. The competitive nature between him and Mo Salah…we’ve seen them not passing to each other…it just makes me wonder.
We expect more from an ex-Liverpool player who is a Scouser and a longtime fan.
