Green Bay Packers WR Expected To Be “Day To Day” With Shoulder Injury

Green Bay Packers wideout Dontayvion Wicks

The Green Bay Packers (4-2) just finished playing their sixth game of the 2024 NFL season. Their last win came against the Arizona Cardinals by a score of 34-13 at Lambeau Field on Sunday. While there has been a list of injured wide receivers, one is expected to be considered “day to day” ahead of their next game.

In Sunday’s win, wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks suffered a shoulder injury against the Cardinals. Fortunately for the Green Bay Packers, the injury does not appear too severe. Wicks has not been a big presence on offense through the last six games, but he has stepped up in the absence of other guys in the same position.

Green Bay Packers WR Dontayvion Wicks Impact On Offense

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks (13) finds a seam in the Arizona Cardinals defense during the first quarter of their game against the Arizona Cardinals Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Dontayvion Wicks has caught 11 passes for 133 yards and three touchdowns through the first six football games. Head coach Matt Lafleur told the media after his wideout did not come back into the last game that it is always concerning when a player is ruled out stating, “We’ll give him through the week and see where he’s at. I just know it’s always a concern when you have a player who can’t go back in the game,” LaFleur said Monday.

Moving forward the Green Bay Packers will have to rely on the rest of their veteran receiving core. Dontayion Wicks is struggling with bringing in catches. Now having to recover from the shoulder injury, Matt LaFleur will likely use more precaution in passing situations when putting Wicks on the field.

Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Depth

One positive aspect for the Green Bay Packers is that they have good depth at wide receiver. Christian Watson just returned to play after being sidelined with an injury himself. Romeo Doubs was recently suspended for detrimental conduct to the team after skipping two practices over a week ago. Doubs caught two touchdown passes with three receptions for 49 yards.

Second-year wideout Jayden Reed undoubtedly looks to be the top receiver on offense. His speed and versatility when he gets into open space allow for more yards after the catch. This gives the Green Bay Packers more of an opportunity to score touchdowns in the passing game.

Wicks told a reporter after Sunday’s game that his shoulder injury was diagnosed as a sprain after he did not come back into the game against the Cardinals. The Green Bay Packers will take on the Houston Texans at Lambeau Field in week seven.

Conclusion

Another wide receiver will have to fill in if Dontayvion Wicks is not able to suit up for the next game. But, with the injury not being as severe as it initially sounded, he could make a possible return. Green Bay is on a two-game winning streak and if they can keep the same energy on both sides of the ball, the future looks very bright for the Packers organization.
