Report: Green Bay Packers Jordan Love Targeting Week 5 Return

Green Bay Packers quarterback, Jordan Love

The Green Bay Packers won today without quarterback Jordan Love. Malik Willis was solid in relief, and the run game was dominant in a 16-10 win over the Colts. While it was a positive to get the win, the team wants their franchise quarterback back on the field. The passing game was a non-threat, and while this may work against the Colts, it will not work against the NFC’s elite. There have been rumors that Love is trending to be back sooner rather than later, but it looks like he is targeting week 5.

Green Bay Packers Jordan Love Return Timeline

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said this morning that Jordan Love is targeting a week 5 game against the Los Angeles Rams for a return date. This would mean the Green Bay Packers would have to start Malik Willis for another two weeks while their quarterback heals. The next two games are winnable if the team plays like they did today. Next week is against the Tennessee Titans. Will Levis has shown flashes but often makes back-breaking mistakes. The Packers have been capitalizing on mistakes by quarterbacks this season through two games.

The week 4 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings looks a lot tougher after this week. Behind another strong Sam Darnold performance, the Vikings took down the San Francisco 49ers to move to 2-0. Still, this game is one the Packers could easily win if they play like they did today. The worst-case scenario is the Green Bay Packers would be 1-3 and not out of the playoff race by any means.

Not Rushing Him Back

While the Green Bay Packers want Jordan Love back on the field, they also don’t want to risk further injury. If the team lost today, there might be more urgency to rush him back to the field. A win today, combined with the upcoming schedule, puts less pressure on the team to rush him back. Even if he were to miss week 5, the Rams have been ravaged by injuries and looked like a shell of themselves in their 41-10 loss to the Cardinals.

It is easy to forget how much talent the Green Bay Packers have on this roster. Everyone got involved today. Josh Jacobs showed his worth and is setting franchise records. While their opportunities were limited, the pass catchers came through when it mattered most. Jayden Reed took some end around for big gains. Dontayvion Wicks caught the lone touchdown. Romeo Doubs came up with a huge 40-yard catch late in the game. The Packers need Love on the field if they make a deep playoff run, but it seems he will be on the field soon.
