Green Bay Packers Get Visit From Former Top 10 Pick

Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers made a huge improvement last year on defense. After years of hemorrhaging yards and points, the team brought in former Boston College defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, and he transformed the defense. There are high expectations heading into the 2025 season. Jordan Love and the offense will hopefully continue their upward trajectory, but the defense needs another solid year. While the NFL Draft will probably be focused on defense (again), the team is also meeting with former top-ten pick Isaiah Simmons on Monday.

Isaiah Simmons Visits With Green Bay Packers

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the Green Bay Packers were bringing in Isaiah Simmons for a visit. In the 2020 NFL Draft, he was taken eighth overall by the Arizona Cardinals and was lauded for his versatility. He was listed as a linebacker and safety. Unfortunately, he never lived up to the pick. This doesn’t mean he hasn’t contributed. In five years with the Giants and Cardinals, he has played in every game, racking up 329 total tackles, 8.5 sacks, 21 passes defended, and five interceptions.

When a player is picked in the top ten, he is expected to be a franchise-changing player. Simmons has been a solid contributor. However, this doesn’t mean he doesn’t have value, especially for the Green Bay Packers. They are thin at linebacker and could use some solid depth at the second level.

Will We See A Deal?

This would be a great signing for the Green Bay Packers. A young veteran who has shown he can contribute in a real way is what the team needs right now. It would also be great for Isaiah Simmons. He needs another shot to show he is worthy of a long-term contract. The Packers are the perfect team. They have an above-average offense, and Simmons wouldn’t have to be the best player on the defense. He would have plenty of opportunities to show what he can do.

Final Thoughts

As of now, there is no indication whether a deal will happen or not. With the NFL Draft approaching, the Green Bay Packers may decide to see what they are able to get there before making any other free agent signings. It will be interesting to see what team decides to take a chance on the former top ten pick.
