As the Golden Knights’ training camp is now underway, will the new faces on the team jive with the remaining? Training camp can set the stage for a bountiful, or abysmal season. As many questions arise with the heavy loss of talent on the Knights’ roster, will the Golden Knights get it together in time for opening day?
Golden Knights Training Camp

Training camp officially set off this past Thursday. Knights’ General Manager Kelly McCrimmon addressed long-time MIA goaltender, Robin Lehner, the club’s training camp goals, preseason, and their approach to the 2024-2025 NHL season. After the success of the Rookie Faceoff for the VGK team, is the far-reaching doubt surrounding this club, unfounded? McCrimmon declared “misfit mentality” as the Knights’ outlook on this season—the dark horse of the NHL, the underdogs, and the continuously underestimated team. VGK Captain Mark Stone, recently spoke on the matter, claiming the doubts from other clubs and fans fuel the Knights to invalidate the naysayer’s claims.
This season’s training camp for the VGK needs to focus on learning to play with new faces effectively. But for Kelly McCrimmon, health is the priority. Due to the recent shockwave of Knights’ goaltender, Robin Lehner missing another training camp, and the Knights players’ history riddled with injury, the VGK is validated in their priorities. To name a few, Mark Stone’s two back surgeries last season, former goaltender Logan Thompson’s lower body injuries this past season, Pietrangelo’s puck to the face, and Nicolas Hague’s current injured status.
New Line Arrangements
Head Coach Bruce Cassidy has plenty of opportunity to create new lines with the loss and addition of players. With the roster nearly established, Cassidy has made some riveting adjustments. The big question in many minds is who will replace Marchessault, Stephenson, and Carrier’s positions. Cassidy may soon find the best answer. During the first few days of training camp, we saw a glimpse of Eichel’s line. Victor Oloffson who recently signed a year contract with the VGK and Ivan Barbashev had the opportunity to skate on Eichel’s line.
Mark Stone’s line underwent some construction adding William Karlsson and Pavel Dorofeyev. Training camp also combined Tomas Hertl, Alexander Holtz, and Nicolas Roy. Regarding the defensive lines, Shea Theodore and Alex Pietrangelo started as a new pair. The infamous Noah Hanifin complimented Nicolas Hague’s wing. Although seeing a Pietrangelo and Hanifin line would be jaw-dropping, these new combinations authored by Bruce Cassidy are sure to add equal strength to each shift.
Training Camp and The Knights’ Approach
The mayhem that has transpired this offseason has thrown a wrench in the skates of the Golden Knights club. Self-inflicted or not, there are some promising new additions to the roster. The ‘misfit mentality’ coined by the VGK club, only grows stronger with each season and each tweet. If there is one thing that the hockey fan and professional hockey community has learned, is that underestimating Las Vegas, is an action often regretted. As training camp continues and preseason approaches, the Knights will continue to secure their lines.
