The Golden Knights shut out the Calgary Flames in a statement game. Hopefully, setting the stage for the rest of the season, Vegas had one of their best games on Monday night. Star of the Week Captain Mark Stone, Keegan Kolesar, and Adin Hill are the highlighted players, with some of the best gameplay we’ve seen in the NHL so far this season.
Period One
The Golden Knights welcomed the Calgary Flames into the fortress for their seventh home game last night. The first period was fast-paced, with puck possession constantly traded between the two clubs. During the first period, it was clear each team had a clear purpose. The Golden Knights’ offense continued to maximize every opportunity presented. The Knights’ defensive and offensive lines looked promising compared to previous games, breaking up plays, handling passes perfectly under pressure, and jumping on loose pucks. Scoring with a calculated wrist shot, Alex Pietrangelo was the first on the board. Calgary did not answer, ending the first down 1-0.
Period Two
Period two was top-tier for the Las Vegas Golden Knights. Vegas spent almost the entirety of the period in the offensive zone. NHL Star of the Week Captain Mark Stone wired a slapshot into the back of the net. The Golden Knights held firm in their 2-0 lead and continued to wear down the Calgary Flames. Calgary struggled on the offensive end and had no shots on goal until the last two minutes of the period. The Flames did not have much offense in the game thus far but did catch two penalties in the second period. Although the Golden Knights left the power plays scoreless, they tripled their shots on goal compared to the first period.
Period Three
The Golden Knights’ fourth line held the offensive momentum in the third period. Keegan Kolesar tipped in a puck after a perfect set up but Nicolas Roy furthered their lead 3-0. After a long shift for the Vegas power-play killers on Jack Eichel’s first penalty of the season, the fourth line once again started the offensive rush. The fourth line starred Keegan Kolesar, Cole Schwindt, and Nicolas Roy. Kolesar scored once again with a snapshot (4-0). Linemate Nicolas Roy sealed the game with a final point finishing the game at 5-0. Goaltender Adin Hill suffered a puck to the neck but went on to earn his first shutout of the 2024-2025 NHL season.
Keep On Carrying On
The Vegas Golden Knights locked in after some scraping wins in the early 2024-2025 NHL season. The improvements are more and more noticeable with each matchup, and the stats prove it. Captain Mark Stone was crowned the first Star of the Week for the NHL, and rightly so. The depth gets deeper with Adin Hill’s shut-out, Keegan Kolesar’s performance, William Karlsson’s momentous season debut, and so on. The Golden Knights can’t seem to stay off the up-swing and continue to intimidate with their performance. The Golden Knights remain untouchable at home.
