Some sources have come up indicating that Gambhir‘s decision to switch from being an LSG cricketer to a KKR one was not a temporary measure. Reports even indicate that the initial plans were made as early as 2018, when Shah Rukh Khan, the KKR co-owner, offered Gautam a ‘blank cheque’ to commit to the Knight Riders for the next 10 years.
Looking at the future possibilities when Gambhir plans to leave the Lucknow franchise in 2023, Shah Rukh Khan got his chance to convince Gambhir to commit to the KKR for a longer time. Apparently, Shah Rukh took Gambhir to his personal house, ‘Mannat’, where the duo spoke for two straight hours, and at the end of the conversation, Gautam was convinced to take the challenge in KKR.

This was shocking for Sanjeev Goenka, owner of Lucknow Super Giants and Gambhir’s previous franchise, who could not believe that Gambhir decided to switch sides even though the latter has a record with his team.
Now, after only one season and after joining KKR, Gautam is in a dilemma about whether to continue there or not. As there is significant news that he is also in the race to become head coach of the Indian cricket team. The name that is doing the rounds for this list is Gautam. Especially for Rahul Dravid’s replacement on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
However, Gautam’s dedication to KKR, as proposed by the supposed Shah Rukh Khan “10-year contract,” creates another level of decision-making. However, the BCCI considers Gambhir a potential candidate for the coaching position; his contractual obligation to KKR reaffirms the conundrum.

In a related development, there may be a problem if Gambhir declines the coaching job, as reports suggest that no Australian has applied for the coaching job and former cricketer VVs Laxman is not interested.
