The upcoming France vs. Spain game is one of the most talked about matches in all of international football this year. With other games in the UEFA Euros happening simultaneously, like the long-awaited England and Netherlands match featuring stars like Jude Bellingham and Virgil van Dijk, all eyes will still be on Spain and France as they battle it out in the semifinals.
Will Yamal be able to spur on his team as a young teen who weights the world on his shoulders, or will Mbappe be able to finally find the form that he has been missing all tournament long to give the French side a leg up in the game? Only time will tell in the France vs. Spain showdown.
France vs. Spain: Preview
France takes on Spain in the semifinals of the Euro tournament being held in Germany this summer on Tuesday, July 9th — today — at 19:00 GMT. Finish work, head home, and turn on the TV so you can see this exciting game live. We are sure it will be one you won’t want to miss.
Spain and France are often thought of as two powerhouses in the footballing world, including underage teams and the women’s side — the Spanish women’s team recently won the World Cup last year and they are frequent contenders for the Euros. The French national team features players like Henry and Renard who are two legends in the game — and the men’s team has big-name stars like Mbappe, Giroud, and Courtois.
So, who will come out on top? Mbappe will have to find his goal-scoring form that has been missing all tournament long if France wants to have a hype of beating Spain. The French team has only scored four goals in the run of play so far this tournament, giving a bit of unease to the team and their fans as they head into this massive match.
On the other hand, Spain is playing more beautiful and more exciting football, especially featuring the younger Lamine Yamal who has turned heads as to how good he is at such a young age. Plus, Spain is the only team in the tournament that still has a 100% win rate, meaning they have not lost or drawn a game in the Euros so far this year and have scored almost triple the goals that France has in the competition.
But, despite how it looks, the France vs. Spain game will be a tense nail-biter. French player Youssouf Fofana urges fans to not count out his side before the beginning whistle blows. While addressing the media, midfielder Youssouf Fofana said:
I don’t give a damn [about the critics]. We are semifinalists. Questions about the level of Antoine and Kylian? We have to realize that that’s enough to be in the semifinals. So I don’t see why we would nitpick.
France vs. Spain: Key Players
Some of the key players in the game will be missing — Spain will be without Dani Carvalho after an injury and Pedri, one of the most eye-catching players in the Euros in previous years, is out for the rest of the tournament after suffering a knee injury that could require surgery or long-term rehab.
This means that Spain will have to be flexible and adapt to veteran players getting more minutes than they had anticipated, and young teenagers getting on the field for the first time in a big game. But, for a teenager like Yamal, it seems to be of no issue, as the 16-year-old is dribbling around players who are double his age with apparent ease.
In head-to-head competitions, Spain edges out France with 16 wins in 36 games. However, France vs. Spain overall is a very tight match, with France winning 13 matches and the teams drawing seven in the last 36 games. But, Spain currently has won their last five matches, which could propel them to victory in this nail-biting semifinal.
Tune in to see who will win the France vs. Spain semifinal.
