Mick Foley Officially Joins AEW Ahead Of Double Or Nothing

Before the World Classic Professional Big Time Wrestling show Mick Foley answered fan questions while in the ring.

Mick Foley has officially joined AEW, with President Tony Khan highlighting the importance of the Hall of Famer’s arrival in the promotion. Foley will be on the panel as a part of this weekend’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view event, which he will host along with Renee Paquette.

The news gained a bunch of attention in the wrestling world, particularly recently, when Foley made derogatory comments about WWE. Khan was bubbling with excitement during AEW’s pre-Double or Nothing media session, talking up Foley joining the promotion and his expertise in the business.

Tony Khan Is Excited For Mick Foley’s Arrival

During the press conference, Khan was ecstatic to welcome Foley into AEW, and, in paraphrased remarks, called him one of the most respected figures in the sport. Khan said Mick instantly thought to film the show with Paquette since the two already have a good friendship. Khan said Foley’s love of professional wrestling and knowledge of the business is the perfect fit for AEW.

Khan also noted his intelligence and impressive list of successes, saying it’s a privilege to have a man of his caliber in the company. Khan also talked about his own experiences of watching him wrestle in WCW, especially his classic matches against his “Cactus Jack” character.

Foley Expected To Bring Experience and Insight

Foley is a huge fan of AEW and is a big fan of modern wrestling. He said that Foley’s experience and wrestling knowledge will help them in the future, both backstage and broadcast.

Khan also praised Foley’s accomplishments outside wrestling, including his successful career as an author. He will be expected on a panel to interview wrestlers, as well as to provide analysis throughout the event weekend, such as Double or Nothing.

Questions Remain About Possible In-Ring Return

One of the biggest questions surrounding Foley’s AEW arrival is whether he could eventually wrestle again. During the press conference, Khan took the question of his return to the ring seriously and stressed that it’s a matter for him to decide.

Khan stated that he would love for him to participate in AEW wrestling in the future, but would not put him in the ring physically if he wasn’t feeling it. Khan admitted that his career was marred by physical abuse and said that the company would put their health and well-being first.

Khan also pointed out that his body could have been ravaged over the years by some of the matchups in wrestling, so he would need to return only if he was truly physically capable.

Previous Comeback Ideas Never Materialized

In recent years, Foley has been rumored to be interested in returning to the ring and has spoken about story ideas featuring former AEW world champion MJF. Those plans were reportedly revised following his concussion, which sparked additional worries about his return to active competition.

In the meantime, longtime wrestling analyst Jim Ross recently voiced his doubt about Foley wrestling once more. Ross said Mick may not be able to make a full comeback to the ring anymore, but was willing to bet he will be seen in storylines or non-wrestling roles.

Foley’s Presence Has Already Garnered Buzz

Mick’s arrival has already been one of the biggest stories to buzz around since he wasn’t a part of the wrestling aspect. As one of the most beloved and respected figures in wrestling history, Mick brings instant credibility, experience, and nostalgia to AEW programming.

Whether his role remains limited to hosting and appearances or eventually grows into something larger, Foley’s addition gives AEW another major wrestling personality as the company continues building momentum heading into one of its biggest events of the year.
