Knockout Bonus Will Be Awarded In Canelo vs. Crawford Fight
There will be even more at stake when Canelo Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) and Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) meet in Las Vegas on September 13. Turki Alalshikh, president of the Saudi Boxing Federation, announced that a bonus will be awarded to one of the fighters if they can secure a victory by knockout. This comes after some disappointing fights in May. Caneloโs undisputed super middleweight championship is on the line. Who will emerge victorious?
KO Performance Bonus
It is not clear how much the bonus will be or if it will be included in the other fights on the card. We have seen co-promoter and UFC CEO Dana White use performance bonuses in the UFC.ย Alalshikh said, โWe will not have โTom & Jerryโ fights anymore.โ Heโs wanted to put an end to fights where one boxer is the aggressor while the other is running around the ring.ย
Crawford stated, โHowever I got to fight, Iโm going to win. Iโm not going to let someone else tell me how to fight when Iโve been doing it my whole life. I wonโt be running. I can tell you that.โย
โHeโs not going to beat me. Donโt worry about it. Iโm a winner,โ the champion Alvarez shared.ย Crawford has knocked out 11 of his last 12 opponents. However, he is moving up two weight classes, from 154 to 168 pounds. Alvarez’s last KO win was in 2021.ย
Final Thoughts
This new incentive should mean that we can expect fireworks from start to finish. This has already been nicknamed โthe fight of the century.โ Boxing needs this now more than ever. Who will be left standing? Will we get one of the most memorable KOs in history?ย
