Jon Jones Fires Back After Brock Lesnar Favored In Fantasy Super-Fight
Jon Jones may have stepped away from active competition, but speculation surrounding his next move continues to grow. The former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion recently made another public appearance and, in doing so, walked back his retirement comments, suggesting that a final fight is still a possibility.
Jones had previously expressed interest in competing on a historic UFC card at the White House, but the idea was reportedly not pursued. Nonetheless, his future remains uncertain, which has continued to have fans speculating on comeback possibilities.
While a UFC return remains possible, it is no longer the only option available to him. New crossover possibilities have now started to attract interest with the rise of Real American Freestyle. The most discussed concepts included a fantasy match between Jones and Brock Lesnar in the wrestling ring. The idea immediately spread as another UFC legend, Kamaru Usman, shared his ideas on how such a fight would unfold.
The Name of Brock Lesnar Enters The Fight
Brok Lesnar is one of the few athletes ever to straddle the line between professional wrestling and mixed martial arts. Just like Jones, Lesnar is a former UFC heavyweight champion. After a successful stint in the Octagon, he returned to WWE, where he went on to become one of the company’s biggest attractions.
Lesnar’s amateur wrestling background has always been central to his reputation. He captured the NCAA Division I national championship in 2000, and that elite pedigree later translated well into MMA competition. At 48 years old, Lesnar has recently fueled retirement talk once again after appearing to step away from professional wrestling following WrestleMania 42. Even with years away from MMA, his size, strength, and wrestling credentials still make him a popular name in fantasy matchups.
Kamaru Usman Gives Lesnar the Edge
During an episode of his Pound 4 Pound podcast, former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman was asked who would win in a hypothetical contest between Jones and Lesnar. Usman admitted it was a difficult question, but ultimately leaned toward Lesnar.
He explained that Lesnar’s massive size and relentless wrestling style could create serious problems. According to Usman, Lesnar was not necessarily known for constant striking exchanges, but he excelled at wearing his opponents down physically.
Usman added that repeatedly taking down someone of Lesnar’s size would be extremely difficult, leading him to believe Lesnar could potentially come out on top. The comments quickly circulated online and soon reached Jones himself.
Jones Responds In Typical Fashion
Jones did not take long to answer the suggestion that Lesnar would defeat him. Reposting the clip to his Instagram Stories, Jones responded confidently and playfully. He stated that he would get his hand raised against both Usman and Lesnar on the same night. The message was classic Jones. It was bold, direct, and designed to remind everyone of the confidence that helped define his championship career.
Many fans and analysts consider Jones to be one of the greatest fighters in MMA history. His résumé includes victories over multiple champions and elite contenders across two weight classes. Because of that legacy, Jones has never been shy about backing himself against any opponent, real or hypothetical.
It is very unlikely that at this point there will be a real fight between Jones and Lesnar. The two men are in the later years of their careers, and Lesnar has not competed in MMA in years. But with the emergence of other promotions and exhibition-type activities, weird pairings are no longer to be dismissed completely. Be it within the UFC, in Real American Freestyle, or somewhere completely different, the concept of Jones vs. Lesnar continues to capture the imagination.
Controversy Keeps Jones In Limelight
Jones is one of the most talked-about figures in the sport, even without an official fight scheduled. The fact that he has an uncertain future, coupled with fantasy matches with some legends such as Lesnar, guarantees that his name will remain at the top of the discussion. And so long as Jones continues to answer, fans will continue to speculate as to whether there is yet another fight to be had.
