John Cena’s Retirement Match Results: John Cena vs. Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event
We have witnessed the retirement of John Cena as he had wrestled his last match at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event against Gunther. Gunther got the opportunity after winning The Last Time is Now Tournament. The match was exciting and gave fans everywhere a chance to see Cena give one final performance. Let’s take a closer look into the match and see if John Cena retired with a win.
John Cena Taps Out to Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event

John Cena would be on the defensive for the first few minutes of the match as he would get repeated clotheslines from Gunther. Cena would reverse one and hit his “five moves of doom” before locking in a STF submission. There would be a few submission attempts, including Cena locking in a sleeper hold.
The match would go to the outside as Cena reversed a powerbomb attempt on the steps through the announce table and turned it into an Attitude Adjustment instead. The match would continue to go back and forth as we saw Cena hit a leg drop and an avalanche Attitude Adjustment.
The match would continue on and be a lot of fun with the crowd biting on every false finish. Gunther would continue to apply sleeper holds on Cena as Cena struggled to fight it off. Cena would continue to fight it off, but Gunther continued to apply significant pressure as John Cena tapped out.
This is the first time in over 20 years that John Cena has tapped out in his legendary career. The “never give up” attitude was not able to ride into the night. The crowd was certainly not happy with the submission before giving Cena an ovation.
The entire locker room would walk out as Cody Rhodes and CM Punk gave their respective championships to Cena as a goodbye. He would embrace Triple H before they would show a video of Cena’s career with moments of his career, his family and wrestlers talking about him.
Cena would take his shoes and wrist bands off and leave them in the middle of the ring before walking to the back before Saturday Night’s Main Event faded to black.
