Gunther’s WrestleMania 42 Status in Doubt After Rey Mysterio Injury

Gunther during the WWE Media Junket

The status of Gunther for WrestleMania 42 remains uncertain following an injury setback involving Rey Mysterio. Reportedly, a scheduled plot between the two was scrapped because Mysterio was injured with a rib, which left WWE struggling to decide on where to take one of its biggest stars.

Original Plans Scrapped

Gunther was originally set to confront Mysterio in a big-time WrestleMania 42 match. WWE reportedly began building toward this showdown through his feud with Dragon Lee on Raw, which was intended to transition into a program with Mysterio.

All those plans were stopped when Mysterio was injured before the Royal Rumble. Consequently, WWE had to change the storyline, and Gunther’s role at WrestleMania is yet to be determined.

Injury Information Of Rey Mysterio

Mysterio then admitted in a match on the Jan. 26 episode of Raw that he had broken his left and right ribs. Despite the injury, he still competed in the Men’s Royal Rumble in Riyadh the following week. Since then, Mysterio has not appeared on WWE programming, raising further uncertainty about whether he will be fit in time for WrestleMania 42.

Dominating Run Of Gunther

Although his WrestleMania plans remain unclear, Gunther has continued to build momentum. He was last seen on the March 2 episode of Raw, where he secured a victory over Dragon Lee.

During the last year, Gunther has established himself as one of the most powerful performers in WWE. He has participated in storyline wins against such great legends as Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, and has earned the title of “Career Killer.”

Moreover, Gunther had already won the Intercontinental Championship for a record of 666 days in a row before relinquishing the belt to Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 39. He has since advanced to a main-event level talent, who has had several world title campaigns.

WrestleMania 42 Approaches

On April 18 and 19, WrestleMania will be held at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. WWE has not officially announced Gunther’s presence in the event, which is imminent. Until Mysterio recovers or a second adversary is named, the question of whether or not he will appear at one of the largest events in WWE history is still doubtful. As WrestleMania 42 approaches, fans are still demanding Gunther’s presence on the card.
