Amir Khan Backs Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua Mega-Fight Talk

Amir Khan (white trunks) reacts between rounds.

Amir Khan has expressed his opinion on a possible blockbuster match between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, which is still attracting serious interest in the boxing community, and a possible match that could be held later this year.

This debate was magnified when Fury returned to the ring and won by a unanimous decision over Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The heavyweight champion secured a comfortable victory in his comeback fight after a 16-month layoff, with scorecards of 119-109 and 120-108 twice.

While the performance was not considered one of Fury’s most dominant displays, he dominated the fight over 12 rounds against Makhmudov.

Ringside Exchange Adds Fuel To Long-Standing Rivalry

The most controversial moment of the night followed the fight, as Fury directly confronted Anthony Joshua in an angry post-fight exchange that reminded me of a WWE-style brawl. Joshua, who was on the ringside, decided not to go into the ring to face off.

Instead, Joshua replied with an example of a sparring session more than 15 years earlier, where Fury himself once confessed to nearly being put to a halt. The fight brought back the hype surrounding one of the most-hyped matches in the history of British boxing. It has never taken place within the ring despite both boxers controlling the heavyweight division over the years.

Fury and Joshua have always been regarded as the most prominent British heavyweights. But the fight between them had never happened in these years. So fans keep pondering what would have been one of the biggest boxing matches.

Amir Khan Shares His Prediction

Khan has shared his view on the potential fight, giving Tyson Fury a slight edge, whilst considering the threat from Anthony Joshua. Khan also referenced the hard times Joshua has had outside the ring, including personal tragedy, whereby he lost some close friends in a car crash in December.

Khan claimed that he still favors Fury in a possible fight, although Joshua appeared strong in training and could not be underestimated. He said it will be significant to observe how Joshua comes back after all that he had gone through in the recent past.

Khan also pointed out the emotional issues that Joshua has gone through since the loss of his friends, which may affect his re-entry into competing. Nonetheless, he still talked about a possible Fury vs Joshua fight as an enormous and much-anticipated one.

Future Uncertainty and Recent Fights By Joshua

Since his sixth-round stoppage over Jake Paul in December, Joshua has not fought. Before that, his last major fight was a loss in the fifth round to Daniel Dubois in Sept. 2024, in which he lost by stoppage.

As both fighters remain active in the heavyweight division, calls for a long-awaited clash continue to grow, especially following Fury’s return and renewed interest in major marquee fights. At least, the prospect of Fury vs Joshua is one of the most debated potential fights in the world of boxing, and fans and even former champions are still urging for a fight that has been years in the making.
