KTM test rider Pol Espargaro has advised his fellow Pedro Acosta to be patient as he builds his career in MotoGP. Although the 23-year-old Argentine has looked promising in his rookie year, he is increasingly dissatisfied with the KTM RC16 he has to ride, which cannot keep up with the Ducati GP24s.
Pedro Acosta has shown aggravated disposition in the last couple of weeks. In one interview after a negative 13th place at the Austrian Grand Prix, Sainz Sr stated that he got to Spielberg “with enthusiasm” and left with pain in [his] chest. It was in October last month when he paid a visit to the company’s manufacturing unit in Mattighofen and that too with a definite intention that his ride is being shaped by him.
Espargaro’s Perspective on MotoGP Realities
Current MotoGP rider Pol Espargaro has observed Pedro Acosta’s plight and tried to put things in context. As Espargaro mentioned himself when he raced at the Red Bull Ring as a wildcard, finishing eleventh, MotoGP is a very special sport in which the ‘best man’ does not always come out on top, he praised Acosta and said that
Acosta has to understand that, for better or worse, the misfortune of MotoGP is that the best, or the fastest, does not always win,” the 33-year-old told Motorsport.com’s Spanish edition.
This he said is different from other games such as tennis or football in which the best player will give his opponent a run and possibly defeat them, MotoGP on the other hand needed both talent and a competitive bike to win. Espargalo agreed with some of the difficulties that KTM is faced with and pointed to the Ducati which is performing far better at present though he still looks to the future.
Chasing the Ambition: The Pressure Put on Pedro Acosta

It can be said that he is a person with dedication and a focus on making improvements for himself and his bike. It was evident from his visit at a private test session at Misano during which he could not even ride the bike owing to MotoGP rules. However, it could lead to drawbacks where the young rider may be too ambitious and try to do too much more than can handle at one time.
In Conclusion
The words that Pol Espargaro passed to Pedro Acosta in Moto2 are the bitter truth that in MotoGP only talent does not work and you will not triumph. His instant fuming is well justified given the intensity of his desire occasionally supported by his slender frame political want to win and the limitations to his equipment but Espargalo’s reprimand points to the reality of the sport, which is finding a niche from where you can reap results, especially when machinery makes up more often than not for the talent.
Said maturity is going to be necessary as KTM continues to chip away at Ducati’s advantage, and the young rider will need to remain focused and retain that belief in his team’s mission statement. There might be some rough days from here on, however, the day is not far when Pedro Acosta will become the champion of MotoGP to reign in the most closely fought arena.
