The Detroit Lions are hungry to get to a Super Bowl in 2024. They had a big lead over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game but could not put them away. The hope is that they can continue their success this year. It is the defense that has people worried. They have talent but need to build depth and upgrade some positions. Detroit will be without one of their stars until training camp. At Thursday’s jersey reveal, safety Kerby Joseph revealed he had surgery and will be out until training camp.
Detroit Lions Kerby Joseph Out Until Training Camp
This injury might explain some of the up-and-down play for Kerby Joseph. He injured his hip in week 2 versus the Seattle Seahawks and missed the next two games. While he played the rest of the season, he didn’t look as explosive as he did in his rookie season. Joseph revealed via The Detroit News that he had surgery on the hip in the offseason but will be back by training camp.
“[I’m not] gonna come back until training camp. Y’all just bear with me. But I’ll be back.”
“If I’m out there, I’m going 100%. [There isn’t a] hindrance. I’m gonna give it all I got every time.”
The good news for Detroit Lions fans is he should be back in plenty of time for the start of the season. However, it is always nerve-racking to hear a player had surgery. The hope is his recovery is smooth and he will be back by training camp.
Can The Lions Repeat The Success From 2023?
One of the toughest things to do in the NFL is sustain success. The NFL gives tougher schedules to teams who did well the previous season. The Detroit Lions will play a first-place schedule in 2024. This will make it harder to repeat as division champs, especially with the Packers and Bears lurking. However, the Lions do have the advantage of being in the NFC. Getting a top-seven spot in the NFC is much easier than the AFC.
The Detroit Lions will rely on the consistency they bring especially in their offense. There are some holes to fill on defense but GM Brad Holmes had a successful draft last year and is looking to do it again in 2024. This fan base is desperate for a Super Bowl berth and this might finally be the year they get it.
