The Detroit Lions are coming off their best season in years. They were so close to reaching the Super Bowl, but a furious comeback by the San Francisco 49ers ended their season. Still, there is a lot to be excited about for 2024. Jared Goff had his best season, and OC Ben Johnson is returning for another year. Jahmyr Gibbs looked electric, and Sam LaPorta broke rookie tight-end records. How will GM Brad Holmes follow up on last year’s success?
Detroit Lions 2024 Draft Picks
The Detroit Lions have seven draft picks in the 2024 NFL Draft.
- Round 1: #29
- Round 2: #61
- Round 3: #73 (via Minnesota)
- Round 3: #92
- Round 5: #162
- Round 6: #206
- Round 7: #246
The Detroit Lions have four of their seven picks in the top 100. After last year’s success at the top of the draft, Holmes will be looking to add more young talent to this roster. While Detroit has some offensive needs, the defense has some gaping holes. Cornerback and defensive line are the greatest needs. Aidan Hutchinson needs another pass rusher to help pressure the quarterback. However, if there is one thing we learned last year, it is that Holmes doesn’t do what you would expect him to do.

Mock Draft Analysis
The Detroit Lions focus on defense in this mock draft. The defensive line is the focus, with Trice and Sweat being the top two picks. Trice has had back-to-back solid seasons for the Huskies and should complement Hutchinson well. The secondary gets a boost with a Wolverine, and Bullock helps shore up the safety position.
The Lions need another wide receiver to complement Amon-Ra St. Brown, but they can find value in the later rounds. Cowing is a quality player out of Arizona. Given the talent on offense, a rookie can flourish because defenses will have to put their focus elsewhere. Late in the draft, they take developmental offensive linemen who can fill in once their current line becomes too expensive or retires.
The Detroit Lions hope 2023 was the start of a long run and not a one-hit-wonder season. With another quality draft, the Lions can get ready for another Super Bowl run.
