The Denver Broncos head into the NFL Draft with a lot of needs. After going on a spending spree in last year’s free agency, the team needs cheap talent. They pick 12th overall in the upcoming draft, and they have a lot of direction in which they can go with the pick. Head coach Sean Payton is reportedly a “big fan” of top tight end prospect Brock Bowers.
Denver Broncos HC Sean Payton Loves Brock Bowers
The Denver Gazette’s Chris Tomasson is reporting that Payton wants an impact player for the Denver Broncos. Their offense was uninspiring last season, and, outside of Courtland Sutton, lacks playmakers. The report indicates that the love of Bowers stems from his elite talent and current tight end Greg Dulcich being injured.
“On offense, Payton is a big fan of Georgia tight end Brock Bowers. It remains to be seen if he still would be available at No. 12 and how much the Broncos might be running out of patience on often-injured tight end Greg Dulcich, but few scouts are questioning the talent of Bowers”
It isn’t hard to see why any team would like the Georgia tight end. At 6-foot-3 and 245 pounds, he is a behemoth who can move. His run-after-the-catch ability makes him an impossible matchup for opposing defenses. Many compare him to George Kittle, who is also dangerous in the open field. He would be a welcome addition to any team, but should the Denver Broncos be the one to take him?
A Good Fit?
Ultimately, the Denver Broncos would have to work hard to mess this pick up. Brock Bowers would be a great pick. However, so would one of the top cornerbacks who will likely be available. An edge rusher would fit perfectly on this team. It would not even be a bad idea to trade out of the pick and gain more capital. The only pick I could see as a problem is reaching for a quarterback. While the team needs one, grabbing a second-tier quarterback in the top 15 seems like a poor decision.
The Denver Broncos will likely be picking in the top ten in next year’s draft. There are so many holes on this team, and while they have the 12th pick, they do not pick again until round three (my trade-back idea would help this). Sean Payton has his work cut out for him as he tries to rebuild this roster.
