Daniel Cormier question the Unexpected Comeback of Jorge Masvidal

Daniel Cormier question the Jorge Masvidal

Daniel Cormier recently expressed shocking thoughts about Jorge Masvidal, who was also the first fighter to fight for the BMF title, against Nate Diaz. The former “BMF” champion is now old and nearing his 40s. Most importantly, he retired from MMA in April 2023 after a defeat to Gilbert Burns in the UFC 287.

After retiring, there are few chances for a fighter to come back to the UFC, especially one of Masvidal’s age. But he returned to combat sports in July, where he fought Nate Diaz, and Diaz emerged the winner. It appears this loss has encouraged Masvidal, and the fighter recently disclosed that he is in negotiations with the UFC for a comeback.

According to Daniel Cormier, Masvidal was not a superstar and only made it further into his fight career. Although Masvidal has fought in more than 50 professional fights, he warmed up his adrenaline-crazed American prime time in 2019 by defeating Darren Till and Ben Askren.

Daniel Cormier said on his Youtube Channel. “Jorge Masvidal should be commended for doing what he did to reach the levels of stardom that he did because when you look at his career as a whole, you do see a guy that spent the vast majority of his prime, the vast majority of his youth, as a middling fighter.”

He remains one of the few fighters who managed to knock out his opponent within the first five seconds, like Askren, whose knockout was the fastest in the UFC’s history. He then became the first-ever “BMF” title holder when he defeated Diaz at UFC 244. That seemed to be the actual last victory in MMA to date, as ‘Gamebred’ suffered four consecutive defeats before his retirement.

Reaction of Fans

However, we do not know about the reaction of the UFC fans to the return of the star. But Masvidal seems to believe that fans will be really happy to see him. But we know that if Masvidal returns, he will fight some famous fighter. He may fight with Chandler as his fight with ‘The Notorious’ is very much doubtful and this will be the most suitable fight for Masvidal. But it does not depend on Chandler though, Masvidal is more than happy to fight anyone if the price is right.

Possible Outcome

If Jorge Masvidal returns, he will attract many UFC fans, but the question that arises is whether he will be able to continue entertaining them. Most importantly, fighters of his age are retiring because of physical weaknesses like Tony Ferguson, so it would be a challenge for him to fight against all these problems.
