Colorado Buffaloes: Does Coach Prime Care About His Fans?

Colorado Buffaloes: Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders and Shedeur Sanders reflect on Nebraska game.

The Colorado Buffaloes showed their true colors after an easy win for the dominant Nebraska Cornhuskers in last Saturday’s (September 7th) match-up. Many fans took to social media and expressed their opinions on the team’s center of attention, Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders and his son quarterback Shedeur Sanders. These astute football enthusiasts noted Prime and Shedeur looked egotistical, that Sheduer’s first-string position is a result of blatant nepotism, that Prime only cares about his stars and does not know how to organize teamwork, oh, and that the Buffs are overrated. The truth is that Colorado’s performance does not match what they say about their team. Actions speak louder than words, so here’s a list of Prime and Sheduer’s reactions.

Coach Prime is proud his team went 10–0 in the second half.

“Yeah,” Sanders told USA Today. “Now we’ve just got to put it together in the first half. There’s always progress my man. The positive thing is the way we competed in the second half. We had no give up, no quit in us whatsoever. I’m just excited. I mean, you gotta understand when you’re in a situation like this, you gotta find something to hold onto that you can encourage your team. And I’m truly excited about the second half of football that we played.”

Coach Prime does not understand why their offense failed.

“I have no idea,” Sanders said. “If we would have known that answer, I think we would have responded quicker. Like we just never got it going until it was too late.”

There are no excuses for losing games.

Sometimes you have those games, Deion Sanders said. Sometimes you have those days. And that was just one of those games and days simultaneously. No excuses, though.

He imagines running the ball to help the other kids on his team start a fruitful career.

First game I think they did a good job, this game they didn’t. We haven’t run the ball like we’ve wanted to consistently. We gotta figure out a way to have some type of running game.

Why did Shedeur Sanders walk away from a humble hand-shaking post-game?

Deion Sanders say Shedeur Sanders ‘got dinged’ a bit on a late-game targeting call and that’s why Colorado took him out.” Denver Sports analyst Jake Shapiro reports. “No. 2 went back to the locker room late in the contest.

Deion Sanders talks about what frustrates him the most about the loss.

“Knowing that we have a tremendous offense. We should be able to move the ball on anyone.”

Coach Prime comments on Colorado’s offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur.

“Pat (Shurmur) has done a wonderful job, I won’t go there.”

DNVR Buffs beat reporter Jake Schwanitz reports Prime’s comments on the running game.

Coach Prime said the reason why the running backs only got four designed runs in the first half was because of the flow of the game and that he stands by Pat Shurmur.

Coach Prime comments on the penalties last Saturday.

We can’t do stupid stuff, we’ve got to stop the foolishness.

Shedeur comments on what Nebraska did to stop Colorado’s offense.

They just came ready to play.” He told USA Today. “They followed their game plan and it was successful.

Shedeur called his pick-six “a rookie mistake.”

That can’t happen, he said.

Coloradoan Buffaloes’ reporter Scott Procter asked Shedeur about CU’s running game:

Whenever you’re able to run the ball consistently, then that opens up the pass but you gotta understand what your team is good at. Why would we keep running the ball if we get in a situation where it’s a must get and we don’t get it?

Conclusion

Coach Prime nor Shedeur have spoken out on the fans’ reaction to their performance. Instead, his response to criticism has been announcing he would no longer accept questions from Denver Post columnist Sean Keeler. As a reporter, his job is to be fair and accurate. Fairness and community are how NCAA football functions at its best – two missing pieces in the Buffaloes’ puzzle. If they are searching for a solution, listening to criticism, and not blocking it out with mental sunglasses will gain them the respect they need to win games.
