UCLA No Match for Ohio State in 48-10 Loss
UCLA was missing its starting quarterback, Nico Iamaleava, as Luke Duncan got the start. This was a bad thing for the Bruins as they were on the road facing the top-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. The Buckeyes beat the Bruins 48-10, and it could have been much more.
Ohio State had a very special victory bell ringer before this game. Jerry Lucas, NBA Hall of Famer and Buckeye Basketball National Champion, rang the bell. The Bruins were not much of a match for the Buckeyes. Do you think Ohio State’s having uncompetitive games will hurt them against tougher competition?

News And Notes
- Wide Receiver Carnell Tate was not in the game tonight. This was his second missed game in a row. Though with a blowout expected, it did not make much sense to start Tate.
- Phillip Daniels was back in the starting lineup tonight. He missed the Purdue game with an injury.
- The Buckeyes are 5-4 against the Bruins, though the teams have not played since 2001.
- Lucas rang the Victory Bell before this game. He got some help from Aron Craft. A statue of him was also unveiled this weekend outside the Schottenstein Center. He will also “dot the i” at halftime on the court during the basketball game between Ohio State and Notre Dame on Sunday.
- After catching a pass with a defender draped all over him, Jeremiah Smith left the game. His absence meant that both of Ohio State’s starting wide receivers were out of the game. That means some young Buckeyes were going to catch some passes in the second half.
- With a 27-0 halftime lead, Ohio State Head Coach Ryan Day said after halftime that he hoped to rotate in some younger players.
Conclusion
The Bruins did not provide much of a challenge for Ohio State. That was a bit of a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it is nice that Ohio State is favored to win comfortably in each game. On the other hand, we know iron sharpens iron, so it is fair to wonder if Ohio State needs better competition. Ohio State plays Rutgers next Saturday.
