TCU Horned Frogs Knock Off Florida Gators At Rady Children’s Invitational
Well, that was a Thanksgiving to forget for the Florida faithful. While most of America was settling into a turkey-induced coma, the Gators were busy serving up a cold, dry bird of their own, falling to a feisty TCU team 84-80. It was a game that left a bitter taste, like that weird, jellied cranberry sauce nobody actually likes.
Coming into the Rady Children’s Invitational, the Gators were ranked No. 10 and were double-digit favorites. They looked poised to handle business. But as any sports fan knows, the games aren’t played on paper, and TCU clearly didn’t get the memo that they were supposed to roll over.
A Promising Start Turns Sour
For a moment, it looked like the Gators were going to run away with it. They came out firing, establishing a game plan that was all about bullying TCU down low. Todd Golden’s squad clearly wanted to exploit their frontcourt advantage, and early on, it worked. They built a lead, held it for most of the game, and even went into halftime up by five. Thomas Haugh was a beast, and Urban Klavzar provided a much-needed spark off the bench, with both players pouring in 20 points.
But then, the second half happened. And TCU just wouldn’t go away.
TCU Refuses To Quit
You have to give credit where it’s due. The Horned Frogs were scrappy, tenacious, and frankly, played like they had something to prove. They clawed their way back from a 10-point deficit in the second half, answering every punch Florida threw with one of their own. While the Gators leaned on their bigs, TCU just kept coming, playing with a relentless energy that Florida couldn’t seem to match down the stretch.
The game became a seesaw battle in the final minutes, but it was TCU who made the clutch plays. The final nail in the coffin? Boogie Fland fouled out with just over a minute to play. You could almost feel the collective groan from every Gators fan watching.
From that moment on, the writing was on the wall, and TCU sealed the deal, handing Florida its second loss of the young season. It was a tough pill to swallow, especially when the Gators had the lead for so long. It just goes to show, you can’t let a team like TCU hang around.
