SEC Baseball Tournament Day 4 Recap and Day 5 Tournament Preview: Upsets In the Bottom Of the Bracket Set Up Cinderella In the Final

May 21, 2025; Hoover, AL, USA; Alabama centerfielder Richie Bonomolo Jr. (5) makes a leaping catch against the centerfield fence during the game with Tennessee in the second round of the SEC Baseball Tournament at the Hoover Met.

The SEC tournament on May 22 featured two games and one upset. Since both games were at the bottom of the bracket, yesterday’s winners will play each other in the semifinals. This means one of them will advance to the final, where they are likely to face a significant test. Yesterday, the No. 7 seed Arkansas defeated the No. 2 seed Texas. No. 6 Auburn defeated No. 10 seed Texas A&M.

The winner of the game between Arkansas and Auburn will face the winner of the No. 1 seed Georgia- No. 5 seed Florida game on Sunday. This sets up a championship on Sunday at 1 p.m. in which an underdog could face the top seed. Do you think there will be an upset in the SEC Tournament?

SEC Tournament Day 4 Recap and Day 5 Preview

The SEC Tournament yesterday featured one shocking result. Arkansas defeated Texas 8-1. This game featured Arkansas Cam Kozeal, who hit two home runs and drove in five runs, powering Arkansas past Texas. The sophomore is an infielder, and he is from Omaha, Nebraska, where the College World Series is played.

Arkansas scored three runs in both the first and second innings to take a 6-0 lead. Kozeal hit both of his home runs in these two innings, and he has three so far in the tournament. Texas scored one run in the first inning. However, this was not nearly enough to stave off the onslaught from Arkansas. After this point, the result of the game was not in question. The Razorbacks scored two more runs in the fifth inning to win the game 8-1. They are the darlings of the SEC Tournament.

In the second game of the day, which followed 30 minutes after the first game, Auburn defeated Texas A&M 7-0. Auburn scored one run in the first inning and four runs in the second inning. They tacked on runs in the sixth and seventh innings to secure the win.

The story of this game, however, was the pitching from Auburn, who tossed a shutout. Two pitchers combined to throw the shutout for the Tigers. Sophomore right-hander Andreas Alvarez started for the Tigers on Friday night and delivered one of his best outings of the season at the right time. He struck out nine of his 19 batters faced, not allowing a run, and allowed only one hit. He threw five innings.

He was matched by his relief pitcher, who pitched the final four innings. LJ Cormier allowed a hit as well, striking out four batters. The duo was practically unhittable for the Tigers. Obviously, these two pitchers will not be able to pitch for the Tigers in the final. However, one has to wonder if Auburn has yet more shut-down pitching for the last game.
