SEC Baseball Day 2 Tournament Recap and Day 3 Tournament Preview: Lots Of Good Games and More To Come
The SEC baseball tournament continued yesterday with four more games. There will be two games today and two on Friday. We will see the top team in the tournament, Georgia, today (at noon against Mississippi State). We also get to see Florida today, after the 12 p.m. game, against Alabama. The game is scheduled to start at 8 p.m.
Several great players in this tournament are worthy of your attention. Tops among them is Georgia catcher, Darin Jackson. Not only is he the reigning SEC player of the year, but he could be the first overall pick in the June Major League Baseball Draft.
Only two players in Georgia history have hit more home runs in a single season than Jackson: Charlie Condon with 37 in 2024 and Gordon Beckham with 28 in 2008. Do you think he will hit a home run in this year’s tournament?
SEC Baseball Tournament Day 2 Recap and Day 3 Preview

In the SEC Tournament on day two, four great games set up some big things for today and tomorrow. In the first game of the day, the Mississippi State Bulldogs destroyed Missouri, ending the game early via run-rule in a 12-2 victory.
Vytas Valincius was the offensive star for Mississippi State, hitting two home runs with four RBI, and Ryder Woodson also hit a three-run homer. Those two paced the offensive explosion. The pitching was good as well. Pitcher Tomas Valincius allowed just one earned run over six innings, striking out eight, helping State advance to the quarterfinals against top-seeded Georgia.
The second game was an 8-3 victory for the Florida Gators over the Vanderbilt Commodores. Florida overpowered Vanderbilt with three home runs: Brendan Lawson, Blake Cyr, and Hayden Yost. Cyr needs to be singled out. He went 4-for-5 with two doubles, 2 RBI, and a run scored. Florida’s bullpen, which might have been depleted, combined for 4.1 scoreless innings, securing the win and a quarterfinal matchup against Alabama on Thursday at 8 p.m.
The third game featured Tennessee and Arkansas. The Arkansas Razorbacks defeated the Tennessee Volunteers 8-4. The Volunteers’ offense could not replicate its Wednesday night performance as Arkansas ended Tennessee’s run. The Razorbacks came out hot, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning, then they added another run for a 5-0 lead. The Volunteers only scored four runs, so even though they were not out of the game and threatened several times, the game was essentially over.
In the final game, we got a great pitching matchup. Auburn defeated LSU 3-1. LSU is the defending national champion. They probably needed a deeper run than this to make the NCAA Tournament, but we will see. In this game, both teams went scoreless through the first three innings, but each tacked on a run in the fourth.
Auburn then took the lead in the fifth thanks to an error from LSU. They added an insurance run in the sixth inning when Eric Guevara hit a home run. Auburn is looking for its first SEC Tournament title since 1998.
SEC Baseball Tournament Day 3 Preview
The wins yesterday set up two good games today. Mississippi State is facing top-ranked Georgia today at noon. That is must-see television because Jackson, the catcher for the team, is a great player.
Then, at 8 p.m., there is a four/five game with Florida taking on Alabama. Four/Five games are always interesting, and this should be a good game as well. After the two games tomorrow, we will have had the opportunity to see all the teams in the SEC Tournament.
