Quinn Ewers Set To Make NFL History For the Texas Longhorns
Quinn Ewers has made history as the first Texas Longhorns NFL quarterback to do this one thing. Read on for what it is.
Quinn Ewers Makes History
Ewers, 22, will make his first career NFL start in the Miami Dolphins’ home game against the Cincinnati Bengals at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday.
According to multiple reports, Miami will hand the keys to the 22-year-old to their offense after benching starting Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa following Week 15’s 28-15 loss to Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers on “Monday Night Football.”
The San Antonio, Texas, native was a seventh-round pick by the Dolphins in the 2025 NFL Draft and has only appeared in one game in his rookie season, but he can make his case to become a starting quarterback heading into the 2026 NFL season.
Ewers’ Outlook
The former Texas quarterback’s outlook appears to be optimistic. With Sunday’s start against Cincinnati, Ewers will become the first former Texas quarterback to start a game since Indianapolis Colts’ Sam Ehlinger at the end of the 2022 season on Jan. 8, 2023.
Ehlinger, who currently plays for the Denver Broncos, has remained a backup in the NFL. The 27-year-old previously played for the Colts from 2021 to 2024. The Austin, Texas, native finished that game with 23-of-35 passing for 209 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions, along with 5 carries for 21 yards in a 32-31 loss to the Houston Texans.
Final Thoughts
With Sunday’s start against Cincinnati, Ewers will be in the national spotlight for the Dolphins, with the possibility of Joe Burrow starting for the Bengals. Both teams are eliminated from the playoffs, but many fans will keep an eye on Burrow, 29, due to the recent rumors of an early retirement and/or Ewers’ first career start.
