Oregon State’s Special Teams Leads to Loss Against Fresno State
The Oregon State Beavers played Fresno State Saturday afternoon, and what a disappointment it was for the Beavers. Oregon State’s mistake-riddled special teams were to blame for the first half of Saturday’s game. Freson State capitalized on a botched snap for a touchdown. A memory that the Beavers want to erase from their minds.
Oregon State’s Disastrous Performance
In the final minute of the first half, the Beavers faced fourth and 11 from their 36-yard line. Punter AJ Winsor lined up to boot the ball away. Winsor couldn’t handle the snap, dropping the ball before chasing it down and kicking it off the bounce. Things just went downhill from there when Fresno State’s Jaden Carrillo fielded it on the run. Carrillo then dashed 42 yards down the left sideline for a return touchdown.
The Beavers felt the wrath of their own home crowd that filled Reser Stadium with boos. Special Teams Coach Jamie Christian could not have been happy with this disastrous performance from his special teams. Head Coach Trent Bay called his special teams “a joke” during the halftime interview.
The Fresno State Bulldogs rallied against Oregon State late in the fourth quarter to kick the game-winning field goal to smash the hearts of the Beavers. This was a close, exciting game to watch. Oregon State is still winless at 0-2 on the season, and the Bulldogs walked away with a 2-1 record.
Final Thoughts On Oregon State
Oregon State needs to clean up its special teams and the 10 penalties that cost them the game. The Beavers will play No. 24 Texas Tech. The long snapper for the Beavers will be in question after this week to see if he plays in week 3. The Beavers need to regroup and get their act and situation together to minimize their mistakes and lead to a win instead of losses.
