Miami Hurricanes LB Charged with Homicide
Miami Hurricanes Linebacker Adarius Hayes has been arrested and charged for three counts of vehicular homicide and one count of reckless driving with serious bodily injury following an investigation into a May crash that killed three people. Hayes surrendered to police Friday morning in his hometown of Largo, Florida.

The Miami Hurricanes put out a brief statement saying “has been indefinitely suspended from all athletic-related activities per athletic department policy” in response to the charges against Hayes. Hayes was driving a Dodge Durango when he hit a Kia Soul that had three people in the car: a 78-year-old woman and two children.
The children were ejected from the car and investigators later found that Hayes was “maneuvering aggressively through traffic shortly before the crash.” He was driving at 78.9 mph in a 40 mph zone at the time of the crash, police said.
The investigation found that Hayes was driving at excessive speeds, making aggressive and reckless lane changes, and showing a complete disregard for surrounding traffic conditions, demonstrating a willful and deliberate disregard for the safety of others.
This even led to a tragic event of killing three innocent people. The Kia was executing and abiding by the traffic law when making a left turn when Hayes crashed into the car. Friday morning, and was taken to the Pinellas County Jail, according to a charge report. He was released on Friday afternoon on $350,000 bond. It is unclear whether Hayes has an attorney at this time.

Adarius Hayes played 12 games for the Miami Hurricanes as a freshman last season, mostly on special teams. He was a four-star recruit coming out of Largo High School. The Miami Hurricanes open the season against ACC Rivals Notre Dame. The Hurricanes are ranked 10th in the Nation but now have Carson Beck at quarterback since QB Cam Ward is now in the NFL. The Fighting Irish are ranked 6th in the Nation.
