Catholic University Track Team Successful At Bison Classic
Catholic University was successful at the Bison Classic on April 11, 2026. Several program, conference, and personal records were set. It is a fact that Cardinal athletes hold three top times or scores in the Landmark Conference. All of these times and scores are held by freshmen men, meaning the future is bright.
This is a busy time period for the Cardinals. Some of them were in a meet yesterday, some of them are in a meet today, and some of them are in a meet tomorrow. They have meets every weekend between now and the conference championship on May 2 and 3. The NCAA Championships are on May 21 and 22. How do you think the Cardinals will do in the NCAA Championships?

There were several personal, school, and conference records set at this meet as Cardinal athletes marched toward the conference and NCAA Championships. One noteworthy result was in the 10,000-meter men’s race. Richard Harrington was second in a personal-best time of 33.55.18. Patrick Morris from Catholic University was third, and Daniel Polanco was fourth. In the 100-meter race, Malachi McIver recoded a personal best of 11.67 seconds.
Marco IndeIicato had a season-best time in the 400-meter race, and Emmanuel Olarewaju had a personal best time. In the 110-meter hurdles, Josh Phillips ran in 16.92 seconds, a personal best. Sean Eiffe threw a personal best of 12.52 meters. James Varellas also recorded a personal best in that event. Nathan Chaney, Nick Chang, and Adrian Villatoro all recorded personal-best distances in the triple jump.
On the women’s side, Kourtney Clipper was second in the 100-meter race with a time of 12.33 seconds. She teamed with Erin Buckley, Ainssley Reisman, and Sarah Schumacher to win the 4×100 relay in a personal best performance. Bridget Byrnes was seventh in the 110-meter hurdles. She had a season-best time of 15.96 seconds.
In the women’s field events, Caroline Welsh had a personal best throw. Kaelyn Booddal also had a personal best throw. Bethany Riddle had a season-best throw in the event as well. Chloe Dodd had a personal best in the pole vault.
Track and Field Recruiting
The head coach of the Catholic University Track and Field and Cross Country team, Steve Rahn, said that the ideal time to recruit high school athletes is their junior year. Recruiting must vary by sport because major college football programs, like Ohio State, are recruiting seventh graders.
For college football, the talk now is about the 2027 recruiting classes. It is fair to wonder if the transfer portal looms as large in track and field as it does in other college sports. There were 4,000 athletes in the college football transfer portal.
Michael Brunet Is Excellent For Catholic University
Maybe the strongest male athlete for Catholic University is Michael Brunet. He is a freshman distance runner from Miami, Florida. He is a great runner who is setting records. Before he ran at Catholic, he was a state champion in the 4×800-meter race. He was also a member of the National Honor Society.
This year at Catholic University, for instance, he won the 1500-meter race at George Mason University. He also had a great 5000-meter race with a time of 15:21:23. He has been great all season, and he seems to be peaking at the right time. Given that he is a freshman, he will likely improve, and he will be at the university for a long time unless he transfers.
Conference Best
Catholic University competes in the Division 3 Landmark Conference. The men’s team for the school owns three conference bests. Calvin Hernandez has the top time in the 100 meters with a time of 10.87 seconds. Michael Brunet has the best time in the 1500 meters, with his performance at George Mason, with a time of 3:53.95. Drew Madden has the top score in the decathlon with 5,880 points.
