Catholic University Has Two Track Meets This Weekend In Diverse Places
Catholic University competed in track meets on Friday at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, and Saturday at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. They did well in both, but because the meets were so far apart yet so close together in time, the team was forced to split up.
The athletes at Catholic University set a number of season and personal bests as they competed in these two events. It was good they were indoors, because it is frigid in the Eastern United States. Do you think the Cardinals are peaking at the right time?
Catholic University at the Doc Hale Invitational at Virginia Tech
Only a handful of athletes from the Catholic University competed at the Doc Hale Invitational at Virginia Tech University. One great performance was from freshman Michael Brunet, who set a record in the process. Brunet had a great time in the one-mile race. He is now in seventh place in the Catholic University record book. The freshman ran 4:18.17 in the event.
Meanwhile, Drew Madden was the only Catholic University athlete to compete in the heptathlon. On the first day, he competed in the 60-meter dash, long jump, shot put, and the long jump. In the first event, the 60-meter dash, he got a time of 7.61 seconds. In the long jump, Madden jumped 5.31 meters. Madden got a personal best and a fourth-place finish with his throw of 12.18 meters in the shot put. Finally, he got a personal best of 1.86 meters in the high jump.
On the second day of the competition, he competed in the pole vault and the 1000-meter run. In the pole vault, he jumped 4.45 meters. In the 1000-meter race, he ran 2:55.36. There were a few other Catholic University Athletes who competed in the Don Hale invitational. Mia McConell got a time of 26.92 in the 200 meters. Her teammate, Zoey Brown, got a 27.66 in that race. Kendrick Dupree ran 41.54.42 in the 800-meter race. Finally, Peter Winter got a time of 1.54.85 in that race.
Catholic University At the Blue and White Invitational At Franklin & Marshall
The Catholic University was more well represented at the Franklin & Marshall Blue and White Invitational. Nicholas Chang recorded a season-best 12.04 meters jump in the triple jump. Brandon Hancock jumped 5.56 meters in the long jump. In the pole vault, Junior Gabe Stypul reached 3.95 meters. Anthony Escuadro competed with a season best of 3.20 meters in the event. Teammate Matt Daley vaulted a 3.05 meters, another season best.
In the weight throw, Catholic University again had three athletes. Caden Lopez led the Cardinals with a throw of 12.07 meters. Benjamin Warr threw 11.69 meters, and Mark Enamorado was close with 11.29m. Warren Gillis rounded out the group with a throw of 10.18m.
Quinn Brubaker competed in the high jump and got 1.70 meters. And in the track events, Augustine Howard ran a time of 2:03.13 in the 800-meter race. He placed sixth out of 41 athletes. David Stango got a season best of 2:05.11 in the event.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Josh Phillips raced a 9.69. In the 60-meter race, Calvin Hernandez was fourth out of 54 runners with a time of 7.13. Romell Randolph ran 7.24 and placed eighth.
In the 300-meter, Sean Owens led Catholic University with a time of 36.90 and placed fifth. Emmanuel Olarewaju got a time of 37.29. Marco Indelicato finished in 37.39. Colin Matthews recorded a time of 37.39.
David Stango competed in the mile and raced a time of 4:43.68. Shane Waring had a time of 4:55.10. Joshua Leon ran a season best 4:59.54. Matt Haugh finished in 5:04.32.
Catholic University also did well in the sprints. In the 400-meter, teammates Emmanuel Olarewaju and Sean Owens finished close to each other with times of 53.02 and 53.05. There were five Catholic University runners in the 400-meter race. Randolph was far behind Olarewaju and Owens with his time of 53.19. Gabe Stypul recorded a time of 55.47. Josh Phillips got a time of 57.16.
Randolph also did well in the 200-meter race. He was second out of 52 runners with his time of 22.94. Again, Catholic University had five athletes in the race. Olarewaju, who did so well in the 400, got a personal best time of 23.91. Marco Indelicato finished in 24.10. Owens recorded a time of 24.23. Colin Matthews had a season-best time of 24.54.
Also, Richard Harrington earned a personal best time of 9:33.36 in the 3000 meters. The women also competed well in this track meet with a variety of season and personal bests.
Parting Shots
The athletes from the Catholic University are tuning up for the season-ending NCAA Championships. They seem like they are in great form as they prepare. Both the male and female runners recorded seasons and personal bests. Up next, the Cardinals will run in the Widener Indoor Classic on Friday, Feb. 13, and Saturday, Feb. 14. This was a strange weekend, with two meets and a divided team.
