4-Star DB Boo Carter Commits To The Colorado Buffaloes
Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes continue their dominance in the Transfer Portal, landing a commitment from four-star DB Boo Carter, who was recently with the Tennessee Volunteers. As Colorado looks to completely revamp their defense after a horrid 2025 season, Carter helps solidify a once-weak secondary that couldn’t stop a nose bleed if they tried.
Boo Carter Commits To Colorado
Colorado securing his commitment isn’t surprising, since the Buffaloes were among his final five schools during his high school recruitment before he ultimately chose Tennessee in 2024. While at Tennessee, Carter played 22 games, recording 63 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 1 interception, 3 pass breakups, and 3 forced fumbles.
He entered college intent on being a two-way player, similar to Travis Hunter. Notably, Colorado recruited Carter as a potential two-way player in the summer of 2023, so it remains to be seen whether he’ll get snaps on both sides of the ball next season.
Even if he doesn’t, he’ll immediately strengthen their secondary and is likely to step in as a plug-and-play slot corner. He is now the fourth addition to Colorado’s secondary, joining Justin Eaglin, Cree Thomas, and Naeten Mitchell. Together, these four combined for 20 pass breakups and 8 interceptionsย last season.
There Are Concerns With Carter
No one questions Boo Carter’s talent, but his summer with Tennessee raised some concerns. He missed numerous team activities and was confronted by team leaders, prompting him to step away from the program for a stretch in July before returning.
Matters worsened during Tennessee’s win over New Mexico State, when Carter was absent from the sideline. After the game, head coach Josh Heupel suggested that Carter had not met the standards required to remain with the team.
After a promising freshman year, he regressed in his second season but now hopes to get back on track under Deion Sanders. He was absolutely worth the risk, as he was one of the best defensive backs remaining in the portal. If Carter can excel against SEC competition, he should perform even better as he transitions to the Big 12.
What This Means
Deion Sanders deserves significant praise for his impressive work in the Transfer Portal following a disappointing season last year. He completely overhauled both the defense and the offense, thanks in part to new Offensive Coordinator Brennan Marion.
In under a week, Sanders rebuilt the entire defensive line, which was one of last seasonโs most significant weaknesses. Many more players plan to follow Boo Carter over the weekend, which will extend Coach Primeโs recruiting hot streak.
The pairing of former James Madison All-Sun Belt cornerback Justin Eaglin and Boo Carter will be exciting to watch next season. One of the most intriguing storylines for Colorado will be whether the coaching staff gives him a genuine opportunity to pursue his dream of becoming a two-way player, which the program has previously considered with former recruits.
