Brutus Buckeye Is 60 and Fantastic
Brutus Buckeye is the mascot for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Brutus turned 60 in the fall, and he was at his all-time best in Ann Arbor as the Ohio State took on archrival Michigan. The snow in Ann Arbor enabled him to write Script Ohio and crossed out the ‘M’ in Michigan’s south endzone. Brutus has a long history of antics, including doing pushups for every point the Buckeyes score in football. Brutus may be the best mascot in sports. Do you think so?
Brutus In OSU-Michigan
Here is the basic game story. The Michigan Wolverines and Ohio State Buckeyes battled it out in “The Game” Saturday in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the Buckeyes winning 27-9. The Wolverines jumped out to a 6-0 lead. However, the Buckeyes dominated most of the rest of the game. It started snowing in the second quarter, but began to accumulate in the third quarter.
When the snow started to accumulate on the field, it became possible to write on the field. That gave the Ohio State mascot, Brutus Buckeye, a chance to show his disrespect for the team up north. After Ohio State went ahead 24-9 on a 50-yard touchdown strike to Carnell Tate, the Buckeyes’ mascot used his foot to stencil a Script Ohio into the snow near Michigan’s south endzone, then he crossed out the “M” in the endzone. It irked Michigan fans while delighting the Buckeye faithful with his late-game stunt.
No one stopped the Buckeyes mascot as he created a memorable moment during what looked like it would end up as a favorable result for the Buckeyes. The Buckeyes’ running attack kept Michigan’s offense off the field for much of the game as the Buckeyes held possession for more than forty minutes.
Michigan freshman QB Bryce Underwood was largely ineffective. Underwood has struggled all season. This is even though he was probably the most hyped prospect in all of college football. He certainly gets paid like it, with $12 million in NIL money.
Buckeyes Heisman Trophy contender Julian Sayin was on target for most of the game. The Buckeyes took a timeout with just over four minutes remaining in the game as they prepared to go for it on fourth down, celebrating a 27-9 lead and preparing to punch their ticket to the Big Ten Championship Game against the Indiana Hoosiers.
Brutus Turns 60
Brutus might be the best mascot in all of sports. He celebrated a major birthday in October. Nearly 2,000 Ohio State fans gathered at Ohio State University’s Recreation and Physical Activity Center on October 29, 2025, for Brutus Buckeye’s birthday party.
The event was not just a party; it was also a high-stakes contest. That’s because attendees were attempting to break a Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people wearing conical party hats. They did break the world record, so if anyone asks you what the Guinness World Record is for people gathered in one place, the answer is 1,994 Ohio State students celebrating Brutus’ 60th birthday.
Conclusion
Brutus is a phenomenal sports mascot. In fact, he may be the best mascot in all of sports. He was at his finest as Ohio State battled archrival Michigan in Ann Arbor on Saturday. Not only did he cross out the M in the snow in the south endzone of the Big House, but he also wrote a script Ohio on the field. He did this all in a season where he turned 60 in a record-breaking birthday party.
