No. 14 Alabama Cruises To Victory Over Kentucky Behind Aden Holloway’s Offensive Explosion
In the first conference game for both Kentucky and Alabama, the Crimson Tide’s offense shone through to help lift them to their fourth straight win, and their first win in SEC play this season.
Aden Holloway Ties Career High In Scoring For Alabama In Win
Coming off a monster game against Yale a few days ago, Crimson Tide Guard Aden Holloway continued his hot scoring today against Kentucky. The North Carolina native dropped 26 points for the second straight game, while also raining in 6 threes in another impressive performance.
Holloway also got some help from some familiar faces on offense, as star sophomore Guard Labaron Philon provided ample scoring support for the Crimson Tide. The 2025 SEC All-Freshman Team member added 17 points as Philon’s offensive growth and consistency continue to be a great asset for head coach Nate Oats offensive scheme.
Since their loss against No. 1 Arizona a few weeks back, the Alabama offense has been on a roll, as the 89 points scored by the Crimson Tide represented the fourth straight 80+ point outing for them. Alabama currently ranks in the top 5 nationally in team scoring and has never dropped out of the top 10 in that department since Nate Oats arrived in Tuscaloosa.
Kentucky’s Fall From Grace Continues
After coming into the season ranked No. 9, the now unranked Kentucky Wildcats’ disappointing season hit another low with today’s loss against Alabama. After their loss today, the Wildcats dropped to 0-5 against ranked teams this year, an almost unheard-of record for the most storied program in college basketball history.
It was the same story for the Wildcats, as Otega Oweh was the only player for Kentucky who seemed to show up in the loss. The Oklahoma transfer finished with 22 points as he was the only Wildcat starter to score in double digits for Kentucky in the game.
It’s been a rough two years for Kentucky since replacing legendary Head Coach John Calipari with former BYU Coach Mark Pope. In his two years at the helm of the Wildcats, Pope sports an overall record of 33-17, while also going 10-9 in SEC play. For comparison, Calipari went 64-12 in his first two years in Lexington.
Where Alabama Stands Following the Win
Today’s win over Kentucky brought the Crimson Tide’s season record to an impressive 11-3 and gave them first place in the jam-packed SEC for the time being. Fortunately for Alabama, the first quarter of their SEC schedule is relatively light in terms of the competition they’ll face.
The Crimson Tide will square off against the undefeated and 11th-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville next Wednesday. That game will represent the first of only two ranked teams that Alabama will face this month. If all goes well this month for the Crimson Tide, they could very well put themselves in a strong position to capture this year’s SEC regular season title heading into February.
