Cleveland Cavaliers Shooting Guard Donovan Mitchell has been great against the Boston Celtics this season. He had his best game of the season against them last night as the Cavaliers overcame a 22-point deficit to win 123-116. Mitchell finished with 41 points and was the driving factor in Cleveland’s shocking victory. Mitchell has had a strong regular season. He is 16th in the league in points per game.
Mitchell has averaged a whopping 35.5 points per game against the Celtics during their four matchups this season. These two teams split the season series(2-2) and have no more games against one another this year. The only other time these squads could play again is in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. Will Mitchell be able to finish the regular season strong and continue dominating the Celtics if they play down the line?

It has been a dream regular season for the Cleveland Cavaliers thus far. They are 49-10, which is the league’s best record. Their offense has been great. They are second in points per game, second in field goal percentage, leading the league in three-point percentage, and one of the best teams in the league at limiting its turnovers.
Cleveland’s defense, while still strong, has been the weaker part of the team this season. They are 11th in points allowed per game, sixth in opposing field goal percentage, and 19th in opposing three-point percentage. The team’s defense has been anchored by Power Forward Evan Mobley. With the injury to Victor Wembanyama, he is now a slight favorite to be named the Defensive Player of the Year. Mobley is ninth in the league in blocks per game.
Final Thoughts
Mitchell and the Cleveland Cavaliers return home to face the Portland Trail Blazers tomorrow afternoon. Cleveland has been one of the league’s most surprising teams this season and will conceivably need to go through the Boston Celtics to advance to the NBA Finals. Mitchell’s success against the Celtics could pay dividends in a few months.
