The Cleveland Cavaliers made history last night when they defeated the Miami Heat 112-107. Cleveland was the first team to clinch an NBA Playoff spot and joined the 2006-07 Dallas Mavericks as the only other team in NBA history to have three 12+ game winning streaks in a season.
That Mavericks team would shockingly lose in the first round of the Western Conference Playoffs to the “We Believe” Warriors. The Cleveland Cavaliers will look to avoid a similar fate in the postseason this year. Will the Cavaliers be able to keep up their great level of play as they gear up for the playoffs?

Cleveland has been great this regular season. They have the league’s best record and are on a 65-win pace. The team’s offense has been tremendous. They are leading the league in points per game, second in field goal percentage, the league’s best three-point shooting team, and one of the best squads at protecting the ball. It has been a committee-like approach for the Cavaliers on offense this season. They have seven players averaging 10+ points per game. Shooting Guard Donovan Mitchell leads the team and is 15th in the league in points.
Cleveland’s defense has been strong as well this season. They are 11th in points allowed, third in opposing field goal percentage, and 16th in opposing three-point percentage. The Cavaliers have the league’s second-best point differential this season. The team’s defense has been led this season by Power Forward Evan Mobley. He is now the odds-on favorite to be named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year.
Final Thoughts
Cleveland aims for its 13th consecutive win Friday on the road against the Charlotte Hornets. It has been such a good regular season for the Cleveland Cavaliers, anything outside of an NBA Finals berth would be a massive disappointment. The NBA world will be watching closely if a historic regular season can transfer over to the NBA Playoffs.
