The Cleveland Browns have been one of the biggest underperforming teams so far this season and there was a major injury that happened to starting quarterback Deshaun Watson. Late in the second quarter against the Cincinnati Bengals inside Huntington Bank Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio, Watson went down with a non-contact injury and was carted off the field while holding back tears. This could be a major development for the Cleveland Browns as they are 1-5 right now and could lose their starting quarterback for a while. Let’s take a look at what happened and what this injury means for the team going forward.
Deshaun Watson Suffers Non-Contact Injury
The Cleveland Browns have not been able to get much going since trading for Deshaun Watson, and they have stuck by him throughout his poor play. However, it appears that he has suffered a potential season-ending injury as it appears that he tore his right Achilles tendon after running the football. The 29-year-old quarterback went to run the football but his right leg buckled and he would grab his calf/Achilles area before being carted off the field.

This injury comes the week that the Cleveland Browns demoted Jameis Winston to the third-string and put Dorian Thompson-Robinson as their backup. Deshaun Watson has not lived up to the major trade price that he had when he came to the team as heading into Week 7 he was completing 60.4% of his passes for 3,237 yards with 19 passing touchdowns to 12 interceptions. The Cleveland Browns have options and seemingly will need to figure out what to do next to potentially keep their season alive as they currently possess the second pick in the 2025 NFL draft if the draft happened today.
