Inside Look: Kansas City Chiefs Week 4 Injury Report

The Chiefs are in good shape injury-wise heading into Sunday's game.

The Kansas City Chiefs head into Week 4 of the NFL season with a division rivalry showdown against the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium. The game kicks off Sunday at 4:25 p.m. EDT, and both teams will be looking to gain early momentum in the AFC West race. Injuries have played a major role for both teams this season, particularly for the Chargers, who have been hit hard in recent weeks.

For Kansas City, the injury situation isn’t as severe, but it’s still important to monitor key players heading into the weekend. The Chiefs are aiming to keep their roster healthy as they look to build on their early-season success.

Chiefs Injuries For Week 4

Kansas City’s injury report released on Wednesday listed four players: Wide receiver Rashee Rice (ankle), Defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi (triceps), Linebacker Nick Bolton (back), and Cornerback Jaylen Watson (shoulder). The good news for Chiefs fans is that all four players were full participants in practice this week on Wednesday. Then on Thursday, two more players were added to the injury report: Safety Chamarri Conner (heel) and Defensive end Mike Danna (calf).

Danna was the only player out of six listed on this week’s injury report to miss practice on Thursday, however barring any setbacks, all six will be available for Sunday’s matchup. Among these players, Nnadi is the only one who appeared on last week’s injury report. The fact that other names such as Xavier Worthy and Mike Pennel are absent from the report this week indicates improvement in their health. This leaves Kansas City in a much better position than they were heading into Week 3.

The return of these key players will be vital for the Chiefs, especially with Bolton’s leadership on defense and Rice’s ability to contribute to the passing game. Their collective health will allow the Chiefs to execute a well-rounded game plan against a Chargers team looking for an upset win.

Key Players Still Out

Despite the overall positive news on the injury front, the Chiefs are still without some important pieces. Wide receiver MarquiseHollywoodBrown and Running Back Isiah Pacheco remain on injured reserve, and neither is expected to return for Week 4. Brown’s absence continues to limit Kansas City’s deep receiving threat, while Pacheco’s physical running style has been sorely missed in the ground game.

Kansas City has adapted well without Pacheco, utilizing a mix of Carson Steele and Samaje Perine in the backfield. Plus, with the addition of Kareem Hunt, who was recently added to the team’s active roster, these three backs should be able to hold it down while Pacheco is out. However, it remains clear that the Chiefs are eagerly awaiting the return of their top running back to add another dimension to their offense. Brown’s speed is also a key factor the team hopes to regain as they move deeper into the season.

Even though the Chiefs are healthier than the Chargers, missing these two offensive playmakers has forced Kansas City to get creative on offense. Expect to see Patrick Mahomes and this offense once again go with a spread-heavy offensive attack as they look to overwhelm a depleted Chargers team.

Final Thoughts

As the Chiefs prepare to face the Chargers on Sunday, the injury report shows a mostly healthy roster compared to earlier weeks. The participation of key players like Bolton and Rice will be crucial for Kansas City, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

While Hollywood Brown and Isiah Pacheco remain sidelined, the Chiefs have proven they can still execute their game plan no matter who is on the field. With the team nearly at full strength and ready for Week 4, the Chiefs have a solid opportunity to take control of the AFC West early in the season.
