Chicago White Sox Set Record With 107th Loss

Chicago White Sox are on a historically awful pace.

The Chicago White Sox made history earlier today when they lost 2-0 to the New York Mets. It was not the type of history the franchise or its fans would be proud of though. Today’s loss dropped Chicago’s record to an anemic 31-107 on the year. This loss broke the franchise record for most losses in a season previously held by the 1970 Chicago White Sox who went 56-106.

With the 2024 White Sox already setting a franchise record for most losses in a season, the team sets its sights on not being considered the worst baseball team since 1900. The 1962 New York Mets lost 120 games, the most for an MLB team since 1900. The way the Chicago White Sox have played as of late, that record set over six decades ago is in grave danger. Will this year’s White Sox team go down as one of the worst in league history?

The White Sox have taken their futility to a new level as of late. They have lost ten straight games and have won only four games since the MLB All-Star break. They also have had four 10+ game losing streaks this season. Chicago’s offense has been miserable this season. They are 29th in batting average, last in home runs, and last in runs scored by a whopping 100 runs. Chicago’s offense is paced by First Baseman Andrew Vaughn. He leads the team in home runs(15) and RBI(59).

The pitching staff of the Chicago White Sox has also been bad this year. They are 29th in ERA, 29th in WHIP, and 26th in opposing batting average. One of the few bright spots for the ballclub this season has been Starting Pitcher Garrett Crochet. He pitched earlier today and made history. Crochet is fifth in the league in strikeouts this season.

White Sox Upcoming Schedule

The Chicago White Sox begin a three-game series on the road with the Baltimore Orioles tomorrow. Chicago needs to go 12-12 over their final 24 games this season to avoid passing the Mets for most losses in a season for a team since 1900. This season has undoubtedly gone terribly for the Chicago White Sox, but there is still time to avoid going down as the worst team in over a century.

The record for losses in an MLB season belongs to the 1899 Cleveland Spiders who went 20-134. One of the few silver linings for this year’s Chicago White Sox is they will not be matching this record. Chicago will look to get back on a winning track during the upcoming week.
