Chicago Bears Officially Sign Top Ten Pick To $22 Million Deal

2024 Chicago Bears Draft Picks

The Chicago Bears still have some work to do this offseason. They have completely revamped their offense, adding Keenan Allen and D’Andre Swift. In the draft, they added two top-ten talents, Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze. Up until today, both of the rookies remained unsigned. However, that is no longer the case, as Odunze has signed his rookie deal.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero is reporting the deal is for four years and $22.7 million deal with a fifth year option. The deal is fully guaranteed and includes a $13 signing bonus. While the former Washington Huskie was the third wide receiver off the board, that doesn’t mean the Bears didn’t get a top-tier receiver. On draft night, GM Ryan Poles gushed over the ninth overall pick.

“Man, I don’t know where to start with that guy. First of all, a human being, what a great guy. Work ethic, just blue collar in the way he goes about things. But as a receiver, he can line [up] anywhere: inside, outside. You love his ability to finish in contested situations. Plays strong, plays big, run-after-catch is very good. He’s a punt returner as well.

“I mean, the kid’s just put time in and he got better and better every single year and he’s a winner. He can impact the game at any moment. If you’re at quarterback, and you’re in doubt, you want to just go give a guy an opportunity to go finish, he’s your guy. He’s done that consistently.”

This is welcome news for Chicago Bears fans. While DJ Moore and Keenan Allen are solid veterans, many believe Rome Odunze could quickly become the number one option. He already has good off-the-field rapport with new quarterback Caleb Williams which the team hopes translates to the field.

What About Williams?

The Chicago Bears are taking these negotiations right up to training camp. Williams said over the weekend he wasn’t really involved in the contract talks, and his lawyers were handling it. There is no indication a deal won’t get done but every day he remains unsigned makes Bears fans just a little more nervous. The former USC quarterback has always done things differently so fans never really know what to expect out of him.

It will be interesting to see how long this gets drawn out. The good news for the team is they have Rome Odunze taken care of. Part of the challenge might have been negotiating with two top-ten picks, which is not something many teams have to deal with. Training camp opens soon and we will get a first look at this Bears’ offense.
