Ellyse Perry is set to skipper Birmingham Phoenix in the women’s Hundred this season. This will be her venturing into the job she should have been satisfied with the previous summer before being sidelined by injury. The all-rounder, who had a great spell in the 2022 season with 134 runs in six matches, missed the whole 2023 season because of a left knee injury supported during an ODI series against Ireland.
Southern Daring likewise affirmed that James Vince will stay the captain of their men’s side. Vince effectively drove the team to win in the debut time of the Men’s Hundred out of 2021.

In Ellyse Perry’s absence, Eve Jones took on the captaincy, but the team struggled significantly, losing seven out of eight matches and finishing at the bottom of the table. Despite these setbacks, Phoenix retained Ellyse Perry along with fellow international star Sophie Devine and five other key players in the March draft.

Ellyse Perry’s return to Edgbaston is highly anticipated, not only for Birmingham Phoenix but for the entire Women’s Hundred tournament. The 33-year-old is one of the most recognized players in women’s cricket, boasting 314 international caps over an 18-year career. She was the leading run-scorer in the recent WPL season.
Amassing 347 runs at an average of 69.40 and taking seven wickets for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who won the tournament. Ellyse Perry also brings extensive leadership experience from her tenure with the Sydney Sixers in the Women’s Big Bash League, where she became the first player to captain 100 WBBL matches.
Expressing her excitement, Ellyse Perry said, “I’m incredibly honored to be named Birmingham Phoenix captain. It is a wonderful club which means a lot to me. It was disappointing to miss out on joining the group last season so I’m excited to be back this year. I’m looking forward to joining the whole playing squad, both our existing and new players to work towards a really successful season for the Phoenix.”

Southern Brave Announce New Captain
Defending women’s champions Southern Brave have appointed Georgia Adams as their new captain following Anya Shrubsole’s retirement. Shrubsole, who led Brave to victory in the previous season after two runner-up finishes, will be succeeded by Adams, who topped the competition’s wicket-taking charts with 16 wickets.
Adams also leads the Southern Vipers, a domestic women’s team based at the same venue. Last year, she guided the Vipers to a double victory, winning both the 50-over Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy and the T20 Charlotte Edwards Cup.
Commenting on her new role, Adams said, “It’s a privilege to be taking over from Anya who was an amazing captain and someone the whole team looked up to. I’m super excited to get going and really looking forward to leading a fantastic group of players and trying to defend the trophy.”
