Toni Kroos’ Legendary 34 Titles: Two More Before He hangs Up His Boots?

Kroos has one match left to play with Real Madrid, and it will be nothing less than the Champions League final. It will be on Saturday, June 1, against Borussia Dortmund at the mythical Wembley Stadium in England.

Throughout his career, Toni Kroos always kept adding stars to a track record that is now legendary. On top of that, he could celebrate two more titles before the end of his career. In total, he achieved 34 victories — one for each year of his life — divided between Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and his national team, Germany.

The German announced his retirement after an extraordinary career, which he will seek to close with the Champions League and the Euro Cup this year.

Toni Kroos, one of the most outstanding midfielders of the last 15 years in the elite of world football, announced his retirement this Tuesday. At the age of 34, the Real Madrid player will end his club career with the Champions League final and say his final goodbye to the German national team in the European Championship.

His best years were in Spain. However, Kroos arrived at Real Madrid after winning the highest title of his career: the 2014 Brazil World Cup, in which Germany beat Alejandro Sabella’s Argentina in the final.

He was a crucial member of Joachim Löw’s German national team and scored twice in the historic 7-1 thrashing of the home team in the semifinals. He also played in the previous World Cup of South Africa in 2010 and later in Russia in 2018.

In the ten years he was at Real Madrid, he played 463 matches and won no less than 22 titles, becoming the fifth foreign player with the most matches played in the Merengue.

In total, he won five Champions Leagues, six Club World Cups, five European Super Cups, four Leagues, one Copa del Rey, and four Spanish Super Cups; three Bundesliga, three German Cups, two German Super Cups, and the aforementioned 2014 World Cup.

The Last Two Titles That Kroos Could Win

After announcing that he is hanging up his boots, Kroos has one match left to play with Real Madrid, and it will be nothing less than the Champions League final. On Saturday, June 1, it will be against Borussia Dortmund at the mythical Wembley Stadium in England. This match will be very special for him due to his past at Bayern Munich.

If he wins it, Kroos would equal the record for having six ‘Orejonas‘ (big ears or Champions League titles), something that only Paco Gento, another historic Real Madrid player, could achieve.

“Today, I am happy and proud to have found in my head and my heart the right time for this decision. My ambition was always to end my career at the top of my level. From this moment on, there is only one main thought in my mind, and nothing will distract me from this: Let’s go for the 15th! Hala Madrid and nothing else!” said the German in a statement published on his social networks.

The Final Farewell

After that, the definitive farewell will be with Germany. Although he seemed to have distanced himself from the national team (he was not in the last World Cup), his great relationship with manager Julian Nagelsmann put him back among the German call-ups. And he will seek to be crowned with one of the titles he lacks: the European Championship. Will he make it? It remains to be seen…

Germany has been fighting for important tournaments for several years but has not won a title since the Confederations Cup in 2017. In this Euro, it will seek to break the drought and will also be obliged to perform well because it is the host. It will share Group A with Scotland, Hungary, and Switzerland.

Toni Kroos’s Message of Goodbye on Instagram

July 17th, 2014 — the day of my presentation at Real Madrid, the day that changed my life. My life as a footballer — but especially as a person. It was the start of a new chapter at the biggest club in the world. After 10 years, at the end of the season, this chapter comes to an end. I will never forget that insolent, successful time! I would particularly like to thank everyone who welcomed me with an open heart and trusted me. But especially I would like to thank you, dear Madridistas, for your affection and your love from the first day until the last one.

At the same time, this decision means that my career as an active footballer will end this summer after the Euro championship. As I have always said: Real Madrid is and will be my last club. I am happy and proud that, in my mind, I found the right timing for my decision and that I could choose it on my own. My ambition was always to finish my career at the peak of my performance level. From now on, there is only one leading thought: a por la 15!!! HALA MADRID Y NADA MAS!
