The Buffalo Bills have given their defense a makeover this offseason. They had to shed some salaries in order to get under the salary cap. However, Buffalo is a desirable place to be. Quarterback Josh Allen is one of the best in the league, and this team is in the conversation for a Super Bowl. Because of this, many veterans are coming to the Bills, hoping to capture a ring. Veteran defensive lineman Austin Johnson has signed a one-year deal this weekend.

The signing was announced in an unorthodox way. Former teammate DaQuan Jones, who also signed with the Buffalo Bills, was the first to break the news on social media. He and Austin Johnson formed a close friendship when they played for the Tennessee Titans. Now, they will be on the same team again. Johnson is a versatile lineman who can play a variety of positions.
He has played outside in 3-4 systems, inside as a dedicated nose tackle, and also as an interior defensive tackle. Johnson spent last season with the Los Angeles Chargers, and he will spend his ninth NFL season with the Buffalo Bills. Last season was his most productive. He had 46 total tackles, which was a career-high. Will he help the team?
Buffalo Bills 2024 Outlook
The Buffalo Bills hope Austin Johnson can be a part of a defensive line rotation that can slow down the elite quarterbacks in the AFC. The offense will be productive with Josh Allen under center. It has been the defense that has struggled to stop opposing offenses when it matters most. If the team is going to win a Super Bowl, they need a dominant defensive performance in at least one game.
Can the Buffalo Bills get over the hump in the AFC? It won’t be easy with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs at the same conference, among others. This fanbase is hungry for a championship and they hope that 2024 is finally the year.
