Buddy the Elf, also known as Will Ferrell, made a shocking appearance at last night’s Los Angeles Kings vs. Philadelphia Flyers game. Accompanied by a cigarette in his mouth and a beer in his hand, Buddy seemed distraught since the recent completion of the Christmas holiday activities. With Buddy’s favorite holiday officially passed, he, like many others, flocked to the ice rinks to replenish their depleted holiday season cheer.
Buddy The Elf Supporting the Kings
From Hollywood to “Hockeywood,” Buddy the Elf, played by Will Ferrell in the 2003 hit movie Elf, clearly needed a Kings’ win. Thankfully, the Kings did not disappoint. Although Will seemed disheveled, with his naughty elf appearance, he came to support his favorite NHL team to secure the win. Will Ferrell has been a long-standing and highly dedicated L.A. Kings fan for quite some time. Although he did not play the infamous sport in his younger years, Ferrell has partnered with the L.A. Kings throughout the 21st century. From helping the club with previous events to consistently attending Kings at-home games, Ferrell or Buddy is a loyal fan.
L.A. Kings Lift Buddy’s Mood
On December 29th, the Philadelphia Flyers made their way to L.A for the matchup. Both clubs had played the night before, but unlike a fatigued elf, the game was fast-paced as soon as the puck dropped. In a high-scoring first period, both teams still had plenty of gas in the tank after the holidays to each score 2-2. The second period looked bleak for the Kings after the Flyers scored two unanswered goals. Safe to say, Buddy probably ordered another beer during the second period. Thankfully, the third period turned the tides of the game, and the Kings successfully signed, sealed, and delivered the loss to the Flyers, ending the game 5-4.
Next Year’s Christmas Saved?
After a tough season for the Christmas crew at the North Pole, America’s favorite elf felt the exhaustion and disappointment of the beloved holiday ending. Buddy’s appearance was worrisome but reciprocated by many nevertheless. The most wonderful (and stressful) time of the year has officially passed, but many sought refuge in one of the best places to refuel anyone’s mood: the ice rink. Santa may hold dominion over Christmas, but the Kings have ensured the Christmas spirit will continue for the 2025 holiday season. Buddy the Elf is sad no more but undoubtedly hopeful for the new year and the L.A. Kings 2025 NHL Playoff prospects.
