Bronny James is one of the most closely watched players in college basketball. Being the son of LeBron James comes with pressure. His first year at USC has had ups and downs. He is a very raw prospect and didn’t always play well consistently. At the end of the season, he announced he was leaving USC, and many thought that meant entering the transfer portal. This is not the case, as it was reported today that he will be entering the NBA Draft.

Bronny James announced that he will be entering the NBA Draft while also maintaining his college eligibility. As a freshman at USC, he only averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 19 minutes a game. However, teams could look to take him to try and attract his father to their team. LeBron has made it clear he would love to play with his son. Some franchise could take the young player and hope he develops in the long term while helping them in the short term.
Bronny James has a ton of potential and showed flashes of being great with the Trojans. However, there are lots of hurdles that many other players do not have.
Bronny James: NBA Draft Hurdles
It is interesting that Bronny James is keeping his college eligibility. What this says is if he doesn’t like his draft evaluation, he will return to college. This isn’t a bad idea. If he is a guaranteed lottery pick, it would be financially prudent to turn pro. There’s another hurdle he will have to clear in terms of health. His cardiac arrest and heart procedure complicate his draft eligibility. He will have to be approved by the NBA’s fitness-to-play panel.
Bronny James is a polarizing prospect for the NBA Draft. Some people have him as a raw but possibly generational prospect, while others think he is a complete bust. This is one of the most interesting stories of the basketball offseason, as it could change the fate of many programs and franchises.
