Following the action-packed weekend in the English Premier League, we shall discuss the losers and winners of matchday 36. There was a lot of excitement over the weekends as fans of various clubs watched their club win their games. But we cannot say the same for teams that lost.
We are heading toward the end of the EPL 2023/2024 season. Some teams, most likely those at the bottom of the table, like Burnley and Sheffield United, will be relegated to the English Championship. From the start of the season, we can arguably say that some of the teams including the big guys never envisioned themselves to be in their current position on the league table.
We had hoped it would be a royal rumble season for clubs like Chelsea (I am a big-time Chelsea fan, but I am disappointed), Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur. But the reality is that these teams played to the best of their abilities to prove that football isn’t usually about big names, but being clinical, intelligent, smart, responsive, and counter-responsive.
EPL Matchday 36: Burnley vs Newcastle 1-4
Burnley experienced an irreparable 4-1 defeat at Home vs Newcastle over the weekend. On matchday 35, they held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford. However, their loss to Newcastle was their 22nd defeat this season in the EPL.
Newcastle United, the triumphant were happy to continue their win. After thrashing Sheffield United 5-1 the previous weekend, they ran riot against Burnley. Who can stop them? I hope they continue with this spirit.
Arsenal Vs Bournemouth 3-0
The last few games of the EPL are important to Arsenal. A while ago, Bukayo Saka expressed how prepared he is for their remaining fixtures. Thus, they sent Bournemouth off the pitch with a 3-0 win for them to reminisce on. Consequently, they still maintain their lead on the table. Can Arsenal beat Manchester United and Everton? This could be tough!
For Bournemouth, staying out of the relegation zone should be their utmost priority. They need to maintain their 10th position and keep their head up. After their win against Brighton, they couldn’t extend the win against Arsenal. Let us hope they win or draw against Brentford this weekend.
Manchester City Vs Wolves 5-1
Pep Guardiola is such an epitome of excellence. I will be surprised if he doesn’t win the ‘Manager of the Month’. But I was so disturbed by how much each goal his side scored vs Wolves meant to him. City as a team has built a strong and indescribable fort concerning the position of each player.
They had a 90% pass accuracy, 12 shots on target, over 600 successful passes, and scored 5 goals. Haaland scored 4 of those goals. This team is on another level. They were not a match for Wolvampthon. This is why Manchester City may win the EPL; it doesn’t look like they are ready for a loss or a draw. They are in for a win.

Conclusion
To a larger extent, some of these clubs have not displayed enough quality. Chelsea have been somewhat unstable, winning when you least expect them to and then coming back to break your heart by losing games you expect them to win.
Manchester United also called the ‘Red Devils’, no longer strikes fear in the hearts of many. Looking at their performance this season, we can agree they have a lot of work to do; from the coaching staff to the lowest player in the club.
Since Harry Kane left his English side Tottenham Hotspur, it has been difficult for the club to find a better replacement. Son Heung-Min, one of the fiercest forwards in the Premier League is missing that sweet combination he usually plays with Kane. Both had 47 goals combination for Tottenham. We shall see what’s left of him cum next season.
