The Washington Commanders have agreed to sign Marcus Mariota to a deal in free agency. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, his contract will consist of a one-year deal of up to 10 million dollars. Mariota was with the Eagles organization sitting behind Jalen Hurts in 2023! This could give Mariota a starting spot with the Washington Commanders in the upcoming season.

Washington will have their presumably new starter in Marcus Mariota. For the Washington Commanders, this will be their second quarterback on the roster. Sam Howell was a part of the team last season as the primary starter under center. Mariota was not a big piece of the Eagles’ offense in 2023, only at times when Hurts was sidelined with injuries.
Last season, Marcus Mariota played three games. He completed 15-23 passes for 164 yards. The 9-year quarterback only threw one touchdown pass and one interception with the Philadelphia Eagles in his one season with the team. The majority of his career was with the Tennessee Titans when he was drafted back in 2015. He has spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders and the Atlanta Falcons as well. Marcus Mariota will bring a significant amount of experience to the Washington Commanders in 2024!
Washington Commanders Hire New Head Coach

The Washington Commanders have hired Dan Quinn as their next head coach. Quinn was previously the defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys. They ranked fifth in scoring and yards given up in 2023. Many fans were disappointed that he took the job with the Washington Commanders. Quinn finally saw his opportunity to become a head man, previous to his last coaching job with the Falcons as the top guy.
His expertise is on the defensive side of the ball. But, Quinn can run an entire professional football team, just like he has done in the past. It will be different starting from the ground up with the Washington Commanders having a lack of success in recent years from other coaches.
Now, the Washington Commanders are making moves ahead of free agency. The offense will be a big factor in 2023; bringing in a quarterback is a definite start in the right direction for the team. With players being able to sign with organizations on Wednesday, this is by far great news for the Washington Commanders, alongside the fact that they will be drafting the number two quarterback in the 2024 NFL draft in April.
